To dry or not to dry MF towels...

I get your not supposed to use bleach or softener when washing MF towels, but what about drying? I've read to dry them, and other times i've read not to dry them. Also, are the are thinner washcloth size ones bad for the finish since they aren't as plush?

Thanks!

I've tried air drying them on a line, but they seem to be softer when you dry them at a low them in the dryer. I think the tumbling around helps.

I have about 200 MF towels. I wash about 30 a day and dry them normally (high heat). By the time they end up messing up (4-6 months) they are about done anyways so I toss em. Hope this helps

I wash them in a 3/1 caustic degreaser solution. :-D

Delicate (low) setting on the dryer. About 20 to 30 towels per load. Works great and they haven't deteriorated. But the static charge can be an issue.

In the end, they are towels. Treat them like so minus the bleach and softeners.

There are certain providers that actually make microfiber towel detergent.

i have never not once dried my MF's in the dryer. I always hang mine dry. My towels have been going for over a year strong with 0 issues. Heat kills everything. Look at what the heat does to such things as:

Food, Car Paint, Plastic Trim, Leather Interior etc . . . . . yet alone a poor towel. My towels usually are dry in a little over a hour with a fan blowing on them.

I always dry on low for 20-30 minutes (with dryer balls) and leave them a little damp. Then, I hang them up on this rack I have in the laundry room to let them finish drying. No static and the towels are nice and soft. Granted, I'm not washing 50 towels a load/day either.

My wife bought those weird blue dryer ball things that bounce around and they seem to make things dry quicker and softer.

Keep in mind it makes a huge difference on what you have for a washing machine. A front loader with high speed spin will get the towels a lot dryer and therefore need less dryer time and low or no heat (tumble). I usually put my towels in the dryer on tumble (no heat) for 30 minutes and they come out dry. I find that higher heat levels increases the static charge they pick up.

Is it ok for me to reuse MF towels that I previously used on other areas of the car such as door jams, cleaning off dust in the engine bay etc...is it ok for me to use them on the paint after a wash?

I wouldn't, but that's just me. I have segregated towels for different duties. Jambs and engine bays are definitely not paint towels by any means. At least not in my opinion.

Same experience here, no matter which washer I've used (agitator or HE frontloader).

I'd tweak that to : "*excessive* heat kills things".

IMO it's just a question of what qualifies as "excessive" in a given context.

Some of my MFs came with instructions to boil them before the first use, and that's a lot hotter than my dryer gets on the settings I use for MF. For that matter, the settings I use for this probably aren't as hot as many shops get, so I guess it's all relative.

No doubt! My washer sucks! I used my fiancees new LG front loader once and they were pretty much dry right out of the washer! :2thumbs:

Hope she doesn't see this post! :D
