To Debadge or not to debadge, that is the question

I've been floating around the idea of debadging my Ranger. It's a grey 98 reg cab flareside 4x2. I think it would give it a more custom look. Any opnions or thoughts??? 91
 
I saw this is a '98. So, depending on the paint color, where it's kept, how it's kept. You might notice a shadow of the badge when you remove them.



I removed them from my Acura TL Type S. I had badges stolen from by Saab. Them left screwdriver marks! I could some one wanting the Type S badge.
 
Strip it naked. It's a great look. I have stripped every car I've owned in the past 9 years with the exception of my Accord. My lates was my 03 Ram. Those big ugly badges had to go. Strip on!
 
also pay attention if your stickers have pins that actually guide them into the bodywork so taht they are straight. it happened on my car and i had to get the bodyshop to respray my trunk. i mean what idiot cant line up a sticker so its straight!
 
I just did my '97 Maxima on Sunday. Looks sharp without the Nissan logo on the trunk. Like K_Csaxo said, make sure there aren't any guide pins going in the bodywork.

For the excess adhesive left behind, try to get as much off as you can by peeling it. I then tried 3M adhesive remover without much success. Acetone worked pretty well, but a rag placed over the area soaked in WD-40 worked the best. Made the adhesive much softer for easier peeling. Wash, polish, and wax. And then enjoy the shaved look!

I'm anti-label, anti-dealer stickers and anti-crappy plate frames. De-badging, in many instances, is a nice touch.

I wanted to debadge my 2003 Accord Coupe but found out that the badge was attached with two holes through the trunk. I felt lucky that I was able to get it back on with no damage but I was extremely disappointed. Just don't see how plugging holes and painting would be acceptable.



Does anyone know if the actual "Accord" lettering to the right of the trunklid on the actual body of the car is attached the same way? I would really have liked to remove all of this and gone with the "stealth" look.

That is actually the normal adhesive. It will come off like the rest do.

Agreed. My 1990 Accord was the same way.



Debadged is the way to go unless you have a collectible car that needs to be 'correct' for shows.



I've found that heating the badge then running dental floss behind the adhesive works great. It removes the badge and almost all the adhesive and won't scratch the paint.
