TN to AL road trip detail Toyota Tundra

Hi Eric,

I am getting soo much truck love. You did a fantastic on my Tundra. I had so much wax on it that the color was muted. Now the RED Salsa Pearl is popping!Everywhere I go people ask me if it is brand new. I really appreciate you going the extra mile to make this happen. Maybe next time the weather will be better and you can stay longer. My wife and kids got a kick out of you spending the night. You are a wonderful person and a great friend. I know God will continue to bless you and your family. Thanks again for bringing out the Tru Shine in my ride.

very nice work.

i hate doing trucks, the paint never ends...

You know as much paint as their is, the panels are relatively flat on the car.

Great job on the car, I've never encountered a tornado in my life, except on the discovery channel. However... earthquakes... that's a different story.

wow. i could never finish down with 105 and have i 100% hologram free and or haze free.

I agree with everyone what works for you and your clients is great but at the same time i feel you should always follow up a compound with a finer finishing polish. If you spent the amount of time you did finishing with M105 with a finer polish the gloss would probably be even glossier . . . . .

Nice job though, truck came out great.

I just did a black 09 tundra and used a pc and yellow pad with chemical guys paint correction process. I started with their heavy cut paint correction 3 compound and the surface was "grainy" in direct sunlight. I followed with an orange pad and paint correction 2 which is a fine polish and the surface was still.a little grainy. Not until I applied their final polish (paint correction 1) did the grainyess go away. You might be able to get away with using m105 only but with black cars your not going to get a very nice finish.

Next time you're down, shoot me a PM and maybe we could all meet up and have a semi-detailing gathering. I'm always jealous of the folks who get to have meets and such.

+1

I'd drive up from Montgomery for that.

IMO, you will always get a better finish with a finer polish after 105.. Its a heavy cut compound, not a finishing polish. Should have spun the wheel for another 2 hours with 205 or at least 85rd. 105 isnt meant to be a one step compound/polish....

what if the owner of the car asked you to do a side by side comparison with your finished product of 105 on a cutting pad (cyan), line up some tape, and then do 105 cyan and 205 tangerine and said "if the 205 side is glossier and more clear, I dont pay"....what would you do?

Eric,

Ill agree that M105 is a cutting compound and a heavy one at that. Polishing paint is polishing paint. Once a paint is leveled to a certain point and refined enough that the texture is level. Will the paint truely get any reflective? Yes obviously you can polish the paint more, but once you remove all the polishing oils to promote propper bonding Is the paint more refined then it was before? Maybe maybe not. I would say from exsperiance its not. If you truely are removing the polishing oils to the fact that you have a squeeky clean surface and the oils are gone the oils are gone. The gloss comes from a perfectly leveled car not the polish. I know many guys who finish down on just M105 including myself. Just saying. Not trying to argure at all, and please don't think that. On a side note how was your trip?

Eric great work man.

I am confident on its finishing capabilities, ive tested this on a few vehicles and they are holding up fine. if you only use little product via KBM and clean the pad and then go back and make another pass after you clean in it, it polishes it out beautifully! no hazing or anything, try it sometime, thanks for your concern.:bigups but I got this under control!

I was in Gardendale AL, and yes the paint was thin and kind of soft. the M105 if finished properly can achieve a haze free swirl free finish. pad cleaning before the final pass is very important and not clogging up the pad with too much product, and they are Hydro tech pads which work better with water based products. So I'm not sure if it's the pad or technique but its finishing out great! thanks

This is the key right here, clean pad!

Todd Helme also told me of another method how to finish down with M105. Do your cut step with 105/orange or tangerine, ect, leave the residual M105 on the surface. Then prime a black LC or equivalent finishing pad with M105 (yes I did say M105.) Med pressure and slow arm motion w/ speed 4 or so. Keep the pad clean. You may have to adjust speed/pressure depending on how hard or soft the clear is.

M105 is a really really good product.

Amen. Michakaveli gave me a tip to try M105 on a crimson HT pad when I was struggling with finishing on a black Audi. Worked like a charm, no micromarring and super easy removal. Amazing stuff.

Eric, awesome work. I'm glad this got bumped, somehow I missed it the first time around. I love your writeups!

wow, this is an old skool write up. Back in my Genesis Days, this was my First Mobile Detail ever....and 600 miles away from home at that!
