Anyone have anything good or bad to say about the Goodyear F1 GS-D3?

I don't know anything about those, but for my MX-5 (which currently has crap tires), I'm thinking either Yokohama AVS ES100's or the Dunlop SP Sport 2's that everyone tends to recommend.
The AVS is a better grip, but would probably be gone in 15k miles. The Dunlop, even under crazy driving, will last around 25k.
I know what you mean about the Tirerack reviews. They think Goodyear Aquatread 3's are the best thing ever. I can't say they're wrong...but they have to be.
I'd also be interested in the Bridgestone SE03's (I think I have that right) but I don't think they're made in my size.

I have crap tires now too which are (thankfully) starting to wear out. They're from the car's previous owner so at least I'm not responsible for those stale donuts. I'm looking at either the same Dunlops or the Falken ZE-512, which seems to get good reviews from Audi owners. I'm leaning towards the Falkens because they're comparable specification-wise (except for wet traction rating) but are cheaper. Keep in mind though, I'm looking at high performance all season tires. Grippier high performance or ultra high performance tires like whenever someone generically says "Kumhos" or the Yoko ES100 are summer only tires so you can't really compare them directly.
It depends on what your priorties and desires are. On the Tire Rack website there is a "tire decision maker" which gets you to rank 3 aspects of tires in order of importance: Handling, Noise/comfort, and Tread Wear. This is a good way to look at things because it usually really is a tradeoff between all 3 of these. It then gives you a bunch of tire options and then it's up to you to decide the final thing: PRICE. If I could get away with summer tires (like California residents) I would, but....
EDIT: Just curious Postwood, what miserable tires are you running on now? I have BFG Touring TA T-rated tires (on my 140mph car
). They have mediocre grip and roar on the highway, which is a big annoyance.

I have crap tires (Bridgestone Potenza RE92s) which are due to be changed soon. Considering I am getting ready to buy 18" rims for my Max, I will be looking at the Bridgestone Pole Position S03. Another candidate is the Michelin Pilot Sport. My main concern is that I need something with decent wet grip. As far as winter tires are concerned, I can throw a set of Blizzaks on the stock rims for winter.

The Goodyears will be replacing a set of Michelin Pilot Sports.
And as for "good for a year" that would equal two summers of use, one more than I'm getting now! I too have stayed away from Goodyear for years but this tire is getting some very impressive reviews - things do change.
