Tire Shop Wrecked My Volks... Need Help!

No. I've had them for four years, and they "WERE" pretty flawless because I'm extra careful with them. Just other people aren't =(
 
I would contact the store and report your problem. They will most likely turn it over to their corporate rep that handles these types of situations. This person will make a decision to either rectify it internally or report it to their insurance company to have them appraise the damage. Chances are that the wheels only require repair/refinish. It looks pretty minor. The fact that all 4 wheels have the exact same scratches speaks volumes about their failure to handle your wheels. It's not like they can say that this happened from hitting curbs and is unrelated prior/post damage.
 
i feel for you...i am always paranoid when having tires mounted. when i had Gramlight 57's on my IS300 i only had my buddy that worked at the toyota dealer mess with them. they had all the high end tire mounting equipment..



i now have satin black 10th anniversary cobra wheels on my mustang and know if those get scratched i might as well get the whole set redone



hope this gets resolved.

The goal of the review isn't to scare the shop as stated earlier, but rather to warn smart consumers that this shop is not a good choice... The threat of the review probably won't do jack, but that's not the point. By the way, how much do those rims go for anyways?

Yeah that's pretty much my only recourse now. When I bought the wheels new from a vendor on my forum, he mounted the tires for me without a single mark, so I know for sure it can be done properly, just this shop failed to do the job right.
 
Sadly nothing. My friend and I went on Thursday to the shop and talked with the manager, who showed us everything, even demonstrated the process on scrap wheels they had lying around. In the end, my friend and I both agreed that he was telling the truth that the tire shop did not cause the damage because even the manager said if they had been able to cause those marks, he would have had absolutely no problem paying to fix my wheels. I have a feeling it was the alignment shop then, but by the time we were done with the tire shop, the other place was closed, so I said forget it, and sadly I'll have to take the loss. Hopefully I can just ignore it for a while, and later when I save some more money, I'll decide on refinishing or not, depending on if reanodizing and then clearing is still possible later.



It probably was the alignment shop, but I decided it's not worth driving another 60 miles to end up with the same outcome of me getting nothing, which sucks, but in the end, I guess, what can you do? Sadly...

How could an allignment have caused the scratches on the wheel? During an allignment I have never seen where anything touched the wheels and went on the out edge of the lip. Sounds like he was trying to weasel out of taking responsibility if you ask me.



Just becuase the manager mounted the spare set without any problems, it doesn't mean that whoever did yours couldn't have caused it. They were probably less competent than him with the machine. I'd press on them about taking care of it, becuase its pretty obvious how the wheels got that way, and the fact that Volk wheels aren't that cheap to begin with. Your wheels, your choice though



It's stories like this that make me even more nervous about letting people touch my car. My car is really due for allignment, but I have been putting it off for a long time just becuase I don't like just anyone getting into my car or more so driving it. Finding a tire shop that I have 100% confidence in, and doesn't have techs walking around that look like they have been rolling around in a mud and grease pit is next to impossible around here
 
It is possible to scratch the rims when putting the alignment heads on. But not a perfectly round, circle scratch. That was done during mounting or dismounting a tire. I know, ive done it.

While it's hard to gage the scope of the damage to all your wheels from that foto, the damage you show in that one area of the wheel was caused by mounting/dis-mounting, as mentioned above. Those are not marks from performing an alignment.
