Tire Shine......

Ok. I'm talking volume here. What are some of the fastest and most efficient techniques used for applying tire shine?

Any and all input welcome!

Stoner's More Shine Less Time for tires is about the quickest thing available. On a dry tire it is extremely easy and quick, except in the wind.

I have to look at cost per vehicle too. I know the product you're talking about very well and love it. It retails for like 4.00 and you can get maybe 3 vehicles worth. that's 1.25 per car for just tires.

I'm looking at 20 cars a day.

How many vehicles are you seeing out of one can? Remember, I do a lot of SUVs too.

Optibond sprayed is probably your best bet. Mother's FX is nice too. You use very little and only need to do one swipe as the product is self leveling for a very uniform look.

For me the fastest method will be using a liquid product spray on a foam and wipe. Most of the time I get a neat, even and no mess application.

Spray on maybe a bit faster but clearing the mess of a couple times of 'overspray' is enough to offset the time save. It may work faster though if you use the same product for both the rim and tires.

FK 108 top kote is a great buy IMO. 32 oz for 16 bucks or so. Since it's a spray bottle and not aerosol, don't have to worry about wind as much. Just spray the tire, wipe with MF towel or applicator, let dry for about 10 minutes before driving. I don't know the total number of applications I got with the first bottle, but I'd say probably 25-30.

This is all I'm doing when in a hurry. Simple, and no over-spray on the body to deal with.

It takes me forever to use up a single bottle of dressing, probably a year or longer. I dunno, maybe one bottle of Mother's FX would do 20 or more cars? I'd sure think so.

Perhaps Forrest can comment on whether these products are available in bulk. I think I'm paying around $6 for the traditional spray bottle at the auto parts store.

Mother's FX FTW :)

20 cars easily, I don't think I use an ounce per car. Even if you did use an ounce, its $0.25 per car.

Same here, Dan. Just trying to give a very conservative estimate of my use. I suspect you're correct, a little of this (thick) product sprayed on an applicator goes a long way and leaves an awesome finish :)

What applicator are you using?

I'm getting the same results as you are out of a can.

The other method that we use at my shop which requires a bit more touch time but is extremely economical is to use a water-based dressing, we use Ardex's Ult-Dress, in a touch-up gun with compressed air. We can do several cars, maybe 4-5, with one cup. If it is allowed to sit for some time this particular dressing soaks in nicely and requires little wiping with this application. 5 gallons cost less then $50.

I think it's the Eagle1 Tire Swipe. These seem to be the most durable and don't fall apart like others.

I do have some knock offs from the Dollar store, maybe Harbor Freight?? They were in a baggie, 3/$1.

Spray bottle works well, but you always end up with some product on the wheels and have to wipe clean. I've been on a "perfect" tire shine quest for a long time now.

I like the EO swipes too. I end up throwing them away because they get so dirty, but they stay together unlike some other ones I've used.

I've been using several of HDs applicators. I just wish there was some type of rubber backing so that the dressing didn't get on my hands.

They hold up really well.
