Tire dressings

For those of you that have tried seemingly every tire dressing known to man, what would you recommend that would leave a matte or satin finish rather than the high gloss, sticky mess that many seem to leave?



So far I have likened Megs #40 vinyl and rubber cleaner/protectant, it isn't exactly cheap for the amount and how often you would use it on tires, but it leaves exactly what I prefer as far as looks.

Z14 is great if you love tires that just look new. Also Stoner's tire shine looks very satin and lasts forever. That said, I love PB Bold & Bright Gel... so shiny mmmmmm.

Some others I can think of similar to #40 are 303 and Vinylex, since they're water based dressings, no high gloss, no globby mess, nothing that can be potentially bad for the composition of the tires.



Products may look different on different brands/models of tires. I've seen the same product look glossier on one type of tire and more matte on a tire.



It's a case of trying a few and finding which looks best to you.

Z14? Do you mean Z16? I thought Z14 was their plastic polish :think:



I've pretty much switched entirely to Z16 as I simply love the matte/satin, "new tire" look. And it doesn't attract/retain too much dust; I use it on the dog-hauler which goes all sorts of places, and while it's not quite as clean as no dressing at all, it's sure not bad in that regard.

Googled this product and read the description on the Autogeek site. I'm thinking I may have to try some.



They describe the finish as a "Subtle sheen", more like a new tire and not the shiny gooey mess that attracts brake dust and road grime. Long lasting polymer coating resists water.



Is that about what you have experienced?

yes...... Works just like Z-16 but lower cost. Car Quest has it also.

Love the look of Poorboy's Natural Look either wiped or sprayed and wiped. Looks like a new tire, not a shiny mess. If you want some shine, apply again.



Also, having just tried an 8oz sample of Optimum OptiBond, that's looking pretty promising for both looks and longevity.

Tried the Megs Endurance tire dressing trigger spray. My first opinion on it is that if you get it on t he wheels it won't come off. I mean that I had to take some D151 and polish the wheel to get it off because a rag wouldn't do it. Then I look at the car and some slung on the car and it won't come off. I am not sure I am going to like this stuff

Back when the original Endurance first came out, I disliked it, but it never gave me problems like this one did Although they fade/wash off more quickly than products like Endurance, I always go with the water based dressings.



Did clay remove any of the Endurance or maybe you have to polish it off?

My all-time favorite tire dressing is Optimum Opti-Bond cut 1:1. Put it in a spray bottle and use an applicator like this: Dressing Applicator and 4 Pads - Cleaning Tools - Wheels & Tires - Car Care - Griot's Garage



Leaves a nice black, low-sheen look.

Nobody has mentioned Eco Touch Tire shine yet.

I tried it a while ago and it does deliver a lovely satin look. Not greasy, not high gloss, just a perfect satin look. Water based and eco friendly. The best of all worlds if a satin look is your cup of tea. Helping the environment doesn't hurt either.

Black Magic Titanium Matte Tire Finish gives a new tire look with no gloss and you can get it at your local Pepboys or other Auto Parts store.

A year ago I posted a review of Matte Tire Dressings. If you really like matte, I'd recommend Mother's Reflections, Duragloss 253, and 303 Protectant. You can get a 24 oz. bottle of Reflections at amazon.com for only $10.

For some reason I simply hated "sliming" my tires so much that I seldom did it, even fitted "no dressing required" tires to the Yukon. Then I got one of those (got mine from TOL) and it made the job so easy that I'm doing it whenever it's needed.



Does the OptiBond look a bit shinier on the BMW's tires than on the Infiniti's? Kinda looks that way in the pix..

I have not cut it 1:1 so what is the advantage other than a 50% reduction in cost such as same look/durabilty for less or does it change the sheen. I call it the full strength look at glossy clean (not bad but just not matte).
