Tire dressings..

Best of my opinion and experience I prefer Ultra Protectant. This water based, spray-on dressing formula leaves a long-lasting high gloss shine on tires.

Black Magic Tire Wet Gel works well. I tried Armor All Extreme Tire Shine Gel, which definitely got the job done and made my tires very glossy, however the product became a bit messy and very greasy if you used to much. I tried Black Magic, and it wasn't as glossy as Armor All, however I could trust Black Magic a bit more.

I loved the AA stuff until it was time to clean the tire, what a mess. If you are up for something new, try Mother's FX, it looks similar to AA Gel but once it gets washed away by the rain, the tires aren't a mess to deal with.

Has any of you tried 3D Ultra protectant. Its a fantastic dressing. They came our with the thick version but I like the original one they got. You just spray and walk away. If you want less shine cut it with 50% water and you will get a nice new look. Also works great for interior since it is water-based. I think the price is also very reasonable. Check it at Tire Dressing Product - Shining Tires with Ultra Protectant | 3DProducts

Looks really good, was getting some minor sling from it though.

props on BM since it lasts a good amount for what it is worth

This may have been mentioned..

I use to use black magic gel, but it takes like 30 minutes to dress tires and is a pain to get off, and clogs up your tire brush making them use-less.

I am now using Meg's D160, I just spray it on a soft rim brush and a bit on tire it works great! Doesn't take much, last a good bit, and easy to clean. I have used it on engine bays, tires, wheel wells, and trim. Works great! Last at least 2 weeks with good shine! (thats how long I have had it)

I have been using Meg's NXT dressing (not certain it was intended for tires) and ran out of it a week ago and bought Meg's Endurance spray to replace it. I've used the Endurance spray on two cars now and am totally disappointed with it. I guess it's the appearance on these narrow (lo-profile) tires...it kinda feels and looks like nothing has been done. Tires look OK, kinda has the appearance of a brand new tire.

I've never liked glossy, greasy looking sidewalls, but have grown accustomed to seeing it and now feel it's missing :(

Based upon comments shared in this thread, I guess I'm looking at Mother's FX or the Duragloss product. Can I buy the Mother's locally?

thx.

The DG won't give you that over the top shine that FX will. DG is great if you like your tires very black but sort of satin like. FX looks like very glossy black licorice on almost any tire I've thrown it on. I've seen FX locally, but I can't remember where, I get it from Amazon (free shipping).

....I agree with Dan. DG probably isn't going to satisfy your need in this case. The finish is more satin or matte (depending how it is applied/buffed down).

OK, thanks for sparing me from the DG product. I called a local store for the FX stuff and they do have it.

I was looking at DG's website and see they have a "wet look" product...called #281 ??

Thanks again, guys, i do appreciate it.

the mothers fx tire shine and spray wax are both great products. using both the fx tire shine and megs endurance trigger spray, i find IME the fx tire shine to be superior of the two (little goes a long way, a few sprays for each tire). one thing i noticed with megs endurance is that it seperates over time and you must shake it really well before use....

Hmmm.... maybe that's the problem with the new bottle of Endurance I have. I did not read the directions and will try to do so tonight. I think I'm most likely to return it. I don't need another matte product cuz I've already got several and they're not getting the job done.

I definitely want to try the Mother's product. It sounds like it will be spot-on for my needs. My local store will have it and they've got 10% off this week :)

thanks !!

The thing about any of the Meg's consumer line tire stuff is, it makes the tire a mess when it comes time to clean it. Not sure if they are using tons of silicone or 100% virgin tree sap, whatever it is, its a serious downer at wash time. FX does wash off after a couple of drives in the rain BUT it leaves the tires very black and there is no mess at wash time.

I know I'm going on about the stuff like a broken record but there is no OTC tire shine that comes close. Optibond is pretty good but not as much bling. PB Bold and Bright looks very close to FX but its more expensive, you need more product to get the same results and it leaves tires less black after it washes off. I've tried every other OTC stuff and ended up giving it away. Until someone comes back and finds something that is just the next miracle, I'm done buying tire shines.

Dan, thanks. The FX just sounds better and better. I don't think I've sampled anything yet that really holds up after the rain. Maybe it's still on duty just a bit if the car hasn't been driven far when using the NXT spray, but with heavy rain and puddles, forget it.

I guess I'll take a chance on more than one bottle of the FX tomorrow when I hit the store. I don't get out in that direction often, and I certainly place faith in your recommdation.

(I'm semi-intrigued with the DG #253 claims and it's durability in the rain. I may try to find a small bottle of that just to have on hand.)

the pb's bold & bright is okay (have half a bottle) but doesn't last long and expensive as you mentioned. with any tire dressing i don't like, i also end up giving it away lol or use it for the wheel wells...

Tom, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. One tip on application, don't go nuts, it takes about an hour or so for it to set and it gets much glossier after it does its business. I find it works best with a foam applicator. I think I use 3-4 sprays on the applicator and then do the whole tire, sometimes I might add a second coat after I do the all the tires if I want a ton of shine.

Just recently bought the new endurance spray from megs and tried it.

Overall look it gave was more of a matte or satin finish, although i only applied one coat, and suspect a second coat would provide a more glossy look. I was however, very disappointed in the spray bottle itself. Maybe I just had a bad sprayer or the liquid consistency is too thick for a spray bottle. It gave a 1 full spray followed by pumping the sprayer repeatedly with little or nothing coming out. If I waited for a few seconds I would get one full spray again followed by little or nothing.

Not sure I will buy it again solely based on the sprayer, but the looks the dressing gave was acceptable for me as I like a nice black satin look.

On a side note I got just as good results using Megs Ultimate Protectant on the tires and it was easier to apply. UP is not intended for tires but it gave just the look I was looking for and durability seems to be just as good as the Endurance spray.

Here are tires freshly done with Ultimate Protectant.

I'll start with one coat - - I don't want to go crazy with it. My assistant typically sprays it on the tire wipe thing and then hits the tire. That has been providing good results.

thx.

I played with the FX briefly last night. It looks quite rich with just a light coat. E-Z to work with :)
