Tire applicators

Yeah, absolutely. Irene and I go back quite a ways, and she and her folks are great to do business with.

Frankly, I'm surprised they're still around (for automotive detailing needs). They're probably a distant ... 8th or so on most peoples list of places to order from. Not saying they're bad, they're great actually.

They're also one of the first places I ordered from back in 2001. I think it went Tim (tacscar), TOL and PAC.

I don't even think Autogeek existed then.

Well, I tried a new applicator...disappointed.

I thought the yellow part was going to be the dense, non-porous handle material like on the EO swipes, but no, the whole thing is the same as the black foam, just in different colors. They are small and flimsy, and I did one car (two apps) and the black part is ripping up.

After looking at the contoured swipes closely at these, I see they seem to be the same foam throughout, also.

And what is the idea with these? They seem to have the yellow non-porous backing, but it's too thin to hold on to and there is a finger slot in the black foam so you can get dressing all over you?

I have the fancy app that Accumulator likes, but can't bring myself to use it until I use up some of my less desireable tire dressings (thank you, all you Big Lots posters ;) ) So I guess I will just keep using the EO apps...maybe try one of those blue yo-yo's one day...

PS Clearly there is room here for someone to invent the "perfect" applicator. It needs to have a handle made out of the yellow stuff from the EO apps, but with a better shape, and some nicer foam, perhaps like the blue yo-yo (I have some old blue curved applicators from ADS and they seem to be a better foam, not sure if it's the same as the yo-yo), and cheap enough so you don't get bummed when you have to throw one out.

i have seen a tire dressing brush at advance auto parts but i havent tryed it yet.

i did have some adams square foam sponges that where also good for tires.

i just put on an old glove when i but dressing on my tires i have geting it on my hands.

Setec Astronomy- Once you finally try that fancy swivel-knob applicator, you might decide the perfect item is already in your hands ;)

*Every single time* I use it, I think how it completely changed my attitude towards this aspect of detailing. And, uhm....how my tires must've looked pretty crappy in the past :o

I guess I just don't want to gunk up my expensive and difficult to get (at least in comparison to OTC EO Tire Swipes) pads with an inferior dressing.

I'll try to work on it...I believe my inventory of less-than-optimal dressings will be exhausted sometime in 2012, based on current projections...

Heh heh, at least you're not just letting them sit unused, like my ages-old gallons of Griot's and Pinnacle dressings :o (Note that some vinyl/rubber dressings start to look kinda, uhm...different after enough time.) Maybe I'll use 'em on the Yukon's fenderliners or something.

I recently used some ArmorAll that has to be at least 15 years old (pricetag from long-closed store), and surprisingly enough it was still good as new! And I'm just using the last of the ArmorAll Cleaner that I bought *before* I got the '85 Jag...found it in a box of old stuff from my late father's house.

Funny what goes bad and what doesn't...

That is GREAT stuff, I have some from that era too that I dug out last year and was surprised how well it worked.
