Tipping, is it expected????

I think if you "expect" a tip then you wont get it most of the time. It is a reward no matter who you are (waiter, vallet etc).

Except for the waiters who are paid under minimum wage and they actually make their money by tips.

Even then it still shouldn't be expected if you do a crappy job (its still earned). Example, if you go to out eat and get a crappy waiter that is the worst you could possibly have would you tip them? I wouldn't and I probably wouldn't go back. Now on the other hand if you got the best waiter that you have ever had and noticed they were working his/her a$$ off you would probably tip them well, I know I would. So like I said it is earned. Its kinda like going to detail a car and you do a really crappy job (make it no better or worse than before), would you expect to get paid? I wouldn't. Kinda crappy comparison, but I think you get my point.

I agree, they are not expected, but ALWAYS appreciated. Generally, I see tips 2nd best as a way of saying they like my work... the first of course, is a referral to their friends and loved ones.

I won't lie, when I began about 3 or so years ago, I expected a tip. In the North East, a lot of things are tipped on. I mean, when haircutters are getting upwards of 30-40% on top of the bill, I figured I'd have some coming for me.

Being young, I quickly learned this was not the case, so I adjusted the prices accordingly.

Getting tips now is very hit or miss. I could do wrecked vehicles and not get a thing and some I get a decent amount. I think the most comes with someone I form a nice "friendship" base with and truly gets a talking to.

But as many have stated, detailing is a bit of a grey area, so I don't expect them, just am happy when I'm paid in cash and the client is happy with the work.
