Time to rebuild stereo system...

I had one Kicker 8" Solobaric in my VW Golf a few years back that was absolutely amazing. It was combined with two Eclipse two channel amps, Eclipse seperates with Kicker midrange speaker. I used an old EQX to adjust sound. Here's a shot of the equipment after I sold the car:

I'm definitely not an expert on the latest equipment but I do know how to listen. I judged a couple of IASCA events back in upstate NY a few years ago.

Here's a shot of my setup:

I would stay away from the Kicker Kx series amps. When I worked as an installer, we would warranty at least one of those a month. If you want a good kicker amp, look at the older ZR and ZX amplifiers, you can find some good prices on Ebay, and they are terribly underrated. As for subs, JL, Image Dynamics, or the L7 Kicker Solobarics. I am quite partial to Kicker components (RS series) too, they get loud, and they don't sound harsh.

Just as an update for those interested...I've FINALLY decided on a sub and amp.

I got a great deal on an Alpine Head Unit (CDA-9813) for $250.00 ...so I got that so far.

I ordered a 12" Adire Brahma subwoofer...it's going to be powered by a Planet Audio TT850.1d. It's 1 x 850 @ 1 ohm!

I'll be building my own box for it, this will be the first time that I've attempted building my own box, so it should be an experience.:up

A little later into summer I will be looking for some component speakers and a small amp, but for now, this should do.

Now I just have to figure out a way to install it and mount it so it doesn't get stolen again!:nixweiss

I've got the basics of box building down. It's just going to be a matter of getting the box air tight, and bracing it so it doesn't flex when the sub is really working.

There is a lot in making a good sub box. You need to know the speaker's "Q" and it "Vas" in order to determine the best air to woofer ratio. You will also need to know if you will be using a sealed system or a band pass. You will then determine if it is a band pass if it needs to be a 1, 2, 3 or 4 th order band pass. You must decide the port diameter and length. etc.............

All of these factors determines how good your bass will sound.

Here is a link to a site(s) that might help with the box design.

I hope this helps a little. Oh, use wall board screws and acoustic caulk.

Cheers!

I got all that figured...I'm using a sealed box approx. 1.4 cu. ft. pushed by the PA TT850, it should be near perfect.

Was thinking about doing a ported box, but was looking for my SQ than SPL. I suppose I could build a bigger box and port it to like 20 hz....but a sealed will work just fine for my needs...I'm not looking to hit 150db's.

I was actually referring to sound quality. I used to have an Alpine/Soundstream/ Nakamichi/MB Quart/Rockford/Audio Control system. Truthfully, for sound quality, I would use a sealed box. Post some pics when you are done!!
