time for new Windshield Wipers

DodgeRacer, I highly doubt that OEM wipers are better than those made in companies which specialize in wipers. Have you tried the Bosch wipers? My friend has a Toyota, and complained about the OEM wipers because of the screeching. He got some Bosch's, and hasn't seen any problems anymore.

No, I haven't tried Bosch wipers. In my experience, wipers screeching usually means they are dirty. I bought a cleaning kit at Canadian Tire a few years ago and that usually fixes that problem if you clean them once in a while. It was just a piece of sponge with a slit in it and a little bottle of solution, mostly alcohol. You wet the sponge in the slit and drag the wiper through it. It allowed me to run the original wipers for two years. I am in Canada and winter takes its toll on wipers. You really need them working good in the snow and slush we get around here.
 
I tried the bosch and i hated them. I have teied many brands of wipers and so far i love my Michelin High Performance wipers. they have to be the best that i have used to date. the only thing is 90+mph in the rain they dont work LOL.
 
I have tried MANY wipers.. Trico, Tridon, Anco, Bosch (including the MicroEdge which i was unimpressed with), Teflon ones etc. So far my favorite have to be PIAA Super Silicones.. GREAT wiper. Costly though, but they really do perform. Somebody above said the Siliblades are the same and cheaper, so that may be a good option.. Also if your frames are still good, you can buy PIAA Silicone blade refills and save a good amount. about $7 per refill.



With the good Advanced Auto 25% off sale, I took a co-workers advice and bought some Bosch Icons for the wifes Camry, they seemed to work very well so far (one week, 2 rains), we will see how they last. I figured the bracket-less, smooth design would really help in the winter, when ice would normally form or get stuck in the bracket and not allow the wiper to fully conform to the windshield and result in a poor wipe.

I've had a similar experience. The Bosch MicroEdge Excel have always just worked "ok". To me the Michelin's didn't seem any better, but at the time that my Walmart started carrying them, they were about $5 each, which costs more than 50% less than the Bosch. In my car its performance has been good but on my father in law's Grand Marquis, it cleans well but chatters a bit.



I think with wipers it's one of those things where it might work well for one car, but not as well on others. You just have to experiment until you find one you like or can live with.
 
^ I agree. Almost everything in the car has been improved except the bloody wipers. Even the wiper mechanism has been improved BUT nobody has come up with a cost effect blade that does it better then natural rubber :( I had high hopes for Silicones but it did not live up to the hype, it was fantastic for the first 6 months though and left an aquapel-like film on the car that lasted another 6 months :) But the price was :eek: My next test will be the Icons.

I agree, how in the world could you not like the Icons? I have them on both of our cars and I wouldn't go back to anything else. Plus they have a sleek look to them that I like.

So as a former employee of Advance Auto, I can tell you that we sell a commercial wiper for like $2 or $3 each!! They are the same as the Trico wipers and we have them on our cars and they are fabulous! At that price too, we replace them every 6 months, just ask for them because they are behind the counter.
 
i love the bosch icons. i have always been one to appreciate good headlights and windshield wipers. i spent the money and i have been more than happy.

I bought a set of the Triple Edge wipers from Wal-Mart and I have had them on for 3 weeks. I use the washer everyday since I drive in the boonies all the time and bugs love my windshield and they are awesome. They're only $7/ea and I was skeptical, but well worth it IMO.

They also have a lifetime guarantee if you send the registration slip in. I called the company and asked how it works.....



Once you've sent in the registration, all you have to do is call the 800 number and they will send out free replacements. You do not send your old ones in and there are no shipping charges for the new ones.
 
I've had a set of Bosch and they only lasted about a month before they started squeaking and streaking. I've also used the winter blade ones and those are ok but only last about one winter. So far my picks are. Silicone blade wipers. I got mine at walmart for about $4 each and they lasted about a year and a half. no squeaks at all. There great in the cold too. Right now i am trying a set of Trico wipers that they sell at Pep boys. They have repaceable wipers and were only $7. The nice thing is in They don't flutter at all and look like any normal wiper. So far so good.

I have the Bosch blades on my car right now, they're "ok"...they're lasting a little longer then my rain-x ones, I heard the PIAA ones are really durable though so I might try that next winter.
