Thoughts on Z-6...

SilverLexus

Super Enthusiast
We finally saw the sun today here in Atlanta so I went to the garage and broke out the Z-6. I was really impressed with how this cleaned up the car. It looks great now. Definitely added back the gloss and reflectivity we have with Z-2 Pro. I think one thing about the Zaino system is that if you are consistent in maintaining it with proper steps (wash,QD,application), the dirt will lift right off during QD after several days of rain.

I smell like cherry now too.

I just went to check on the car after walking the dogs. The surface is very slick again. Which is good since more rain is forecast for tomorrow. Atlanta has been more like Seattle lately...

Lee, Its been a while since I used Z6 as a stand alone QD. How dirty was your car before and where are the pics?

I like Z6 very much also. I do wish that is were available in gallons. At a reduced bulk rate. I would use it more often.

Pretty dirty although usually my car stays very clean when I'm at home. I may have some pics tomorrow morning.

Z6 adds brightness and really rejuveniates the base polish and Z8.

Very good way to put it-could not have said it better. :)

I think Z6 when first released was one of the top QD out there but with all the other updated products in has sunk to the middle of the field among a lot excellent QD. If you use Zanio then Z6 is probably the best since it is part of the Z system. I think Z8 is where Z6 was when it was first released – I have not found any QD that works better than Z8 on sealants and I still testing FK 425 but that might be one of it’s few competitors. :2thumbs:

:werd: I only use Z6 when using Zaino, and even then, I only use it when I'm going to be layering the sealant in a short period of time. It works fine, but there's just something about it that I don't care for (besides the smell). I really wish Sal would revamp it and at least make it slicker (like UGE). It's never really knocked my socks off like some of my other favorite QDs.

Z8 is great for what it is. It's a joy to work with and what it lacks in cleaning ability it makes up for in looks. But with QDs like #425, Z8 is becoming a tough sell for me.

The super slickness of some QDs comes from oils (temporary), which Zaino simply will not use.

Or silicones. Many will not admit it but about 95%+ of QD's out there have some sort of oil, wax, or silicone in them. True polymeric gloss enhancers are expensive and most users will not notice the difference. Sal, owner of Zaino, a boutique company, knows his niche market will pay for the "best".

True. Between the issue of oils/silicones (and which of those are good/bad silicones) and the issue of alcohol content, picking and using a QD can be a crapshoot.

I personally don't mind oils for added lubricity as I usually don't need an oil-free QD for use between sealant layers. I'd rather have the slight safety net of added lubricity from oils to aid in reducing the chance of marring the paint.

I'm sure Sal uses top notch ingredients in his QD and all of his products for that matter, and hell, I love Zaino.... I just wish he would reformulate the Z6.

I've got a LOT of stuff to use up before if/when I make the switch back to Zaino when Z5Pro comes out :doh

I've said it before and I'll say it again... if Sal would change to a system where the catalyst were mixed in with the sealant already and could be used like, say, UPP, I would use Zaino exclusively. Durability be damned, give me ease of use, and with that ease of use, durability becomes a moot point for me, and I'm sure for many others who don't do this for a living.

Was wondering if you have considered the use of Z1 as the activator of the sealant? Have been using Z1 as of late. It does produce good results as well. All one has to do is apply a thin coat of Z1 on the paint surface. Wait a little while for it to haze then apply the Zaino of your choice over that. I believe that one does not even have to buff off the Z1. Instant activation and is good for up to 10 coats before Z1 is needed again. Have been using this method. It has produced the clearest shine that I have ever obtained with the Zaino system. I happen to have the time and enjoy layering Z5 and Z2Pro. I like it better than trying to do three layer of either one or both in one day. Although you may not have that option because I know most everyone has a normal job. Luckily, in my case, my work allows me to take the time

Yeah, I kind of forget about Z1 when talking about Zaino. When I started using Zaino six or seven years ago, well obviously then I had to use the Z1 and I enjoyed the process more than the ZFX routine. I guess I have bought into what Sal has said about ZFX in that it really just tightens up the Z system and makes it look better, last longer, and makes it easier to work with since layerability comes into play.

I don't mind using the Z1 at all, but Sal himself seems to have almost made Z1 sound obsolete, and that is kind of discouraging from a customer's standpoint. Especially with the advent of Z2Pro and Z5Pro in the works, both of which seem to have been developed to work best when used with ZFX...

I just hate mixing this, shaking that, letting this set up for such and such minutes, dealing with the little bottles laying around, cleaning the little bottles out, worrying about ZFX gumming up, et al.

But this is a thread about Z6 so I'll shut up about the rest of the Z system now :dance

I really don't mind it. It just takes a minute to setup. I just buy some cheap bottles and throw them away when I'm done.

Can FK425 be substituted for Z8 (or Z6, for that matter)? Or will it mess up layering Z2/Z2Pro?

I would not suggest it as its not formulated for Zaino products. With Z-8 and Z-6 you know everything has been tested six ways to sunday for compatibility.
