Thoughts on CTS-V color choice

I'd say a flat powderflake white with a D3 widebody kit like the gray one that was at Sema:

Here's the Thunder Gray Chromaflair...

I can't access those pix, but I'm pretty sure that's the color I was thinking about.

I also have yellow calipers...

[old man voice]...Oh, you crazy kids!...[/old man voice]

o next question;

silver calipers... or yellow?

Something subtle. Black, gray, silver. I don't get the "look at these!"-colors on brake calipers. No, not even on BBK/special ones.

Yeah, yeah...I *am* awfully conservative about this stuff ;)

I'm not a big fan of the yellow calipers... if they were red then I'd probably go for it, but I'd stick to silver in this case.

I think I'm going to go with silver. If anything it'll be a better base coat when I spray them white ;)

I've always had red calipers, but went with the yellow when Cadillac came out with them. They look a little different on polished wheels.

touch up the calipers? (post #5)

CTSV- At the risk of sounding just oh-so-negative all the time...do you think that'd be a tough color to, uhm....stay happy with on a day-to-day basis?

Yeah, it's too, uhm..."young" for me, but sheesh, what isn't :o What I'm really wondering about is whether you'd end up making it an all-the-time detailing project or whether it'd be low maintenance :think: It looks like a color that *I* would want to keep perfect al the time.

True, it's a color to keep clean. However, The car is a weekend car (that's only been driven in the rain twice), the problems I have with BDT are;

1) it's Black

2) it's a Black heavy metallic

3) it's a Black heavy metallic with flake.

4) it's a black heavy metallic with flake and is impossible to correct except in direct sunlight and then you still have a 10% chance to miss stuff.

I know for a fact I spent more time trying to correct that paint with a sun gun(and still missing a ton of rids) than I had keeping it clean with once a month washes and DS/WW wipe downs once a week.

The blue, while probably just as maintenance-happy as the black, will be easier to color match, easier to correct and probably just about as rare as the black.

The plan this time around would be to hand it off to a good detailer for new-car prep and then wrap the whole front-end and high-risk areas, I didn't do this the last time and I'm regretting it. The 9month old car already has a dozen large chips on the front end and the whole front bumper is pitted. I *may* try to DIY again if I can't find someone on the board that's local, but just as you stated previously, I'd rather be driving it than having it in the garage another 2-3 weeks working on it 2-4hours at a time.

C. Charles Hahn- Heh heh, I gotta admit that the Hyponex reference went right over my head :think: :confused: :nixweiss All I can think of is stuff like "manure", "full of it", stuff like that :eek:

CTSV- Heh heh, your comments about the metallic black sound *exactly* like me when I talk about that Yukon XLD I had!

And yeah, the blue oughta be much easier to keep nice (but then, what wouldn't be?!?) by comparison. IF it looks like the right color for the car *for you*, then OK (and hey, I like Chrysler's B5 blue on a lot of different MOPARs). I won't beat the dead horse; I think we're both on the same page about getting something that's easy to have an overall-FUN experience with as opposed to some endless detailing project.

Nah; actually what I was referring to was that if even dirt (hence the bag of potting soil) was "too young" for you, that's not a good sign.

Or, in other words, the way you talk you'd think you were older than dirt, but all things considered I'm sure you're not. :whip:

C. Charles Hahn- AH, OK...*now* I follow!

Heh heh...yeah, Barry's teasing notwithstanding, I'm like, uhm...kinda stodgy for my age (early 50s). Threads like this remind me of how a pal once said I have the aesthetic sense of a constipated German banker :chuckle:

The upside is that my vehicles say "conservative, responsible citizen, LEO friendly" and it probably accounts for some of the stuff wife and I get away with. Yeah, they *say* it doesn't matter...but, well, you know.

so I ordered my car yesterday and I went with..................

BLUE

on black rims, and yellow calipers.

Won't be able to miss the car from 5 miles away.

Heh heh, well I do believe that! :eek:

But seriously, I hope you simply love it, and that it turns out to be OK maintenance-hassle wise.

What're you gonna do about pre-delivery pampering and what's the plan for its LSP/etc.?

Thanks for indulging my constant small talk, lol It's like I'm freaking 4 years old waiting for christmas right now and it's only been 2 days :/

I tried to make it as clear as possible;

no front plate

NO washing

keep the interior bags/neat factory info cards.

No dealer sticker

Haven't decided if I'm going to find someone local to correct it or try to DIY again. If I have the spare $$$ I'll probably give someone a call. I think considering this color should be easier to respray I will likely fore-go a clear bra.

Pics are here!

instructions to dealer;

no washing

no PDI prep

just powerwash.

results;

factory paint aside from a few scratches/marring and 1 bad spot is nearly perfect! No swirls yet! SHould just need to do a minor correction over the weekend to get her into autopian shape!

CTSV- Glad to hear it came through OK!

And, heh heh, even conservative ol' me will say that those brake calipers do tie in with the color of the parking lights in that middle pic.

What you gonna do for LSP? I might be leaning towards OptiCoating it :think:

Thanks for the kind words, going to tint the windows and black-out the grill and I think it'll be just about perfect.

Probably the same LSP I've used in the past;

Adams Americana.

She's a fair weather driving garage queen, no need for opticoat, The Americana was lasting a few months, that's fine for me.
