Thoughts on CTS-V color choice

So.. I may be in the market for another V-- one with a stick to row and a sunroof delete so I don't hit my head on the roof with a helmet.

Black Diamond Tricoat has been a very nice color, but it is simply impossible to work on, I'm constantly reminded every time the sunlight hits it that I've missed tons of rids, and my last rear-bumper venture was a 5 month long attempt to get a good match on the paint.

SO with that in mind, I'm also considering going with a different color.

Currently the big three are;

White Diamond Tricoat

Opulent Blue

or

Crystal Red tintcoat

concerns with the WDT are the same with the BDT obviously, but I will admit, I wanted a white CTS-V originally just because a blacked out trim white V looks SICK.

The Blue sort of reminds me of an Audi nogaro Blue/ patriot blue in between er, but I'm not sure its bright enough for me to enjoy. It just sort of instills a feeling of being utilitarian if it's too dark. The advantages of course being, it'll hide dirty fairly well, be the easiest to color match and be easy to correct. It's also $1000 cheaper on the invoice and since it's a new color it'll probably be a bit exclusive too.

The red of course.. is red. It pops when it's clean, works well with the black trim/rims will be easy to correct and easier to color match than the BDT/WDT

I have a Thunder Gray Chromaflair Coupe and the paint is amazing. It really hides dirt and swirls well and looks terrific when clean!

BLUE!

I live in SE Michigan and we have a TON of CTS-V's around (both first and current gen). Black, white, and red are the most common. The new ultra metallic black looks cool, but I really like the ability to stand out in a crowd. Put a black, metallic black, or pearl black V on any road or highway and see how much it stands out compared to one that is blue. You don't get a V to blend into the crowd, and having the ultra rare blue will leave you turning heads for years: especially properly polished and cared for.

We looked at a Vagon for the wife and would of done Thunder Gray.

The Black Diamond looks beautiful on the Vs IMO, but I could see it being a real pain to keep perfect since it is still black. If it were me I'd go Opulent Blue or Thunder Gray Chromaflair since most I have seen are some sort of black, silver, and white

CTSV- My choice of color would probably be *way* too conservative for you, but out of those three I'd choose the white.

While it's all well and good to appreciate how certain colors look when Autopianized, wouldn't you rather have something that looks good (as opposed to *great*) 95% of the time (as opposed to 5% of the time), without making it a part-time job?

You know- drive the wheels off it while looking good rather than spend your life detailing it to make it look great. Living with your current color oughta be a cautionary lesson ;)

Hands down, Crystal Red tintcoat!

Looks so Sexy!

Amen to that! Well said.

I think the Gray Chromaflair will look cleaner than the white most of the time........but I'm biased. :wink1:

I agree 100%-- which is why I'm considering changing colors.

I'm assuming you mean silver? I've owned silver cars in the past, I'm not sure I want to go through the same color matching headaches as before. It is a bit too traditional looking as well, I find that it doesn't quite pop as well when say, lowered, or the chrome trim is blackened out.

Got her tinted and blacked out the window trim!

I'd be going for essentially what this person has done to his, except not quite so much blacked-out trim

Plasti Dipped Wheels, White Brembo calipers, Custom V Logos Coming

BLUE!

that's basicly my attraction to the blue, I'll have to see if I really like how dark it is, my last 2 beater pos's were blue, so I'm kinda turned off by the color generally.

David Fermani- And that color (he already has) is sooo similar to the Carbon Metallic that prompted me to sell the Yukon! Biggest PIA I've ever lived with.

CTSV- Well...you know me...I'm a sucker for silver sedans.

But actually, I was kinda thinking about the gray color I've seen on some recent CTSs. VERY stealthy, which is part of what I go for (and yeah, it *does* help make your car more ticket-proof to drive a "mature-looking" sedan ;) ). Kinda traditional looking, yeah..but that can be a feature. I think it looks, uhm..."professional", as in "serious about the driving".

I wouldn't worry about the color matching. I seem to have some of that done almost every year :o and recently it's been turning out much better than in the past. Same painter, same shop, same brand of paint, same color- much, much better. The newer tech seems good in that regard. The recent work on my (GM pewter) beater-Tahoe was just *incredible* in this regard.

I've had enough blue cars (my beater-Audi is dark blue, like your beaters were) to think that blue is just another high-maintenance color when you're, uhm...Autopian. And a too-bright blue is just wrong *IMO* on cars like this.

Oh, and I'll probably have nightmares about that guy's white calipers  If you do that, please don't tell me about it :chuckle:

I've never seen another vehicle with such intense flakes besides a speed boat from the 60-70's or a car in the hood. :LOLOL

Speaking of metalflake, and the '60s-'70s... my favorite old-timey Cadillac color is Firethorn Green Metallic.

See what happens when you tempt me off-topic :o
