Thoughts about 2007 Jetta GLI - researching for possible buy

Sounds like I am one of the few that loves my GLI.



I bought my 2006 GLI in October of 2005. So far, no problems at all. I previously owned a 1999 Passat, and the only problem I had was a faulty fuel injector (fully warranteed and replaced in a couple of hours).



My GLI has the stock 17" wheels, 6 speed manual, CD changer, moonroof, etc. Leather but no power seats (don't even think it was an option, but didn't need them...I'm the only one who drives the car). It's very fun to drive, looks great (grey) and does what I need it to.



Most brands will always have problems. My best friend had a 2000 A4. Car was in the shop constantly. My other friend had a 2000 CLK...same story. My wife has a 2002 Jetta....only shop visits have been for oil changes and tire rotation.

I suggest you work hard in school this year but your poor spelling desribes how I feel.



If someone gave me a new VW I would get rid of it as soon as humanly possible. Trouble prone doesn't even begin to describe them.

I think he means, he is "un-enthused" (If that is a legitimate term) regarding the VW product line.
 
Some VW models are made in mexico, so they don't pay there workers much and are making huge profit off you. Make sure the model you want is made somewhere good and not in a sub par sweat shop. Sometimes the saying is true about getting what you paid for, and that includes employees.
 
'personally i would not buy a vw. I work at a dealership here in canada and i have never seen so many new cars roll through the maintenance bays. From what ive seen the DSG trannys have quite a few problems and on alot of the cars its easy to spot shoddy work. The worst story i can think of is when a 07 passat wagon 4motion left the showroom and came back a couple weeks later in need of a new engine and transmission. I would pass on the car.'
 
Oh man, don't get me started on VW reliability!! My wife had a 2000 Jetta 2.0 and it was JUNK!! Piston rings had to be replaced, A/C died, front windows would fall out of the tracks while she was driving down the highway, 3 or 4 recalls, interior trim peeled off, wax dripping out of the doors, oxygen sensors going off like popcorn, sunroof motor, you name it. Just a horrible experience, she's in a 2004 Subaru Forester XT now - 3 years and NO problems.



I would like to think that this has changed, but (against our advice) a friend leased a GTI, he had it one year before giving up the lease and losing a ton of money. He just couldn't keep the car out of the shop.
 
I own a 2001 Jetta VR6. The MAF sensor was bad that was a recall anyways years ago. 87000 miles and trouble free. My car was built in Mexico. When I was a member of 2 VW clubs I wittnessed GTI's that came from Germany and were in the shop all the time.



It is a hit or miss. Buy a Honda or Toyota if you want to be sure. Although neither one will have the look and feel of a German car.



PS: I'd buy an R32 now.

I'm a little biased though as I have an '04 R32 with 50,000 trouble-free miles. I haven't heard of many, if any, problems with this particular model and I know of people on vwvortex with 100k+ on their R and no issues. They're built in Slovakia (at least the '04s were), but I understand that that may not matter. Perhaps more attention is paid to the smaller-volume cars? I have no idea. Time will tell how it holds up for me as more miles accumulate, but so far it's been perfect.
 
I bought a 2005.5 Jetta with package 1. I liked the car, ran great, good on gas, but I haven't had so many little things break since owning GM cars in the late 70's. I tried to sell it - priced exactly half way between the highest and lowest on Autotrader - 3 months and never got a call. I traded it on a Toyota, and I saw it sit on their lot for 4 months before someone bought it. And jeeez, man the paint and interior were perfect!
 
'A friend of mine has a \'68 Beetle that his parents bought new and although it only has 140,000 miles, the engine and tranny have never been opened up in nearly 40 years! Obviously, it\'s given them fantastic durability/reliability. On the other hand, the new Jetta they bought last year has had a new engine put in already along with about a dozen other visits to the dealer for other issues. They will never buy another VW...what a shame to loose such a loyal customer - how the mighty have fallen.'
 
My cousin had a Jetta about 2 years ago. He hated it. It was in the shop monthly for something different each time. The a/c broke, transmission, and a bunch of other stuff. He traded it in for a 02' porsche carerra though.

VW is just as bad. The door mirror on a Touareg is about $1300! I'll bet they don't stock em either.



Moral of the story = buy :usa

Because the engineers @ VW decided to produce it with 7 expensive parts! *Most* mirrors come 1 piece = much cheaper. It's the most expensive mirror I've ever had to replace.
 
Hey Dave, I saw on one of those news shows that one of the Infinity's had the honor of being the most costly after a 5 mph crash, something like 14K. I had a'68 Chevelle that I pushed over an outhouse with and didn't get a scratch! Hey, it was Halloween and I was a kid.
