Thoughts about 2007 Jetta GLI - researching for possible buy

Maybe I was unclear... Does anyone have any thoughts about the 2007 Jetta GLI? If so, please share, good or bad.
 
I have been looking at the VW GTI which would really suit all of my needs. My concern with VW products is reliability. I would research recent VW quality before leaping into a purchase. Some VWs spend a lot of time in the shop.

I know two people that have VW cars. One is poorly cared for because the owner says that it doesn't matter it's going to break anyway. The other is well cared for, much newer and breaks anyway. I'd stay away.

Just a little insight on VW:



I have owned a car dealership in the past, but have never seen such pathetic dealer practices as VW.



A year or so ago, I bought a Toureg. Here is a transcript from the whole sale process:



SALESMAN 1: "That Toureg is $550 per month ot lease. Ill be out on Monday, my wife has cancer and we are going to the Dr for radiation on Monday, so if you want it, let me know today please"



JD: "Really, thats terrible, my mother is just recovering from breast cancer"



SALESMAN 2 - (also trying to work me for the $550) - "Hey salesman1, are you ready for golf on Monday?" - OOPS!!!!



JD: "Are you really that much of a f@#ing a loser"? - The guy walked out of the office in shame. I ended up getting the Toureg from another store.



This month, I considered buying less expensive car to drive to the train. The GLI/GTI were on the list. I figured it would remind me of being 16 again. I could not get a straight price out of a VW dealer. The residuals are so low, the salespeople cringe when you ask to lease. One qouted me $420 with no money down for a $27k car!!! I had a $35,000 SAAB for less than that last year.



I also could not get them to respond to my e-mails through heir internet dept. I contacted VW and they contacted one fo the dealerships and they finally responded. Tis particular loser that responded to me, started to fight with me over the e-mail. He told me that I was looking for BMW like service out of a low end store. I called the sales manager of the dealership to let him know what kind of great people he has working for him and he told me that these things happen. (not in my store they didnt)



I wouldnt buy their car because I dont think they have done anything to earn my business. Needless to say, Im not going to get another VW. I just saw a $369 per month lease for a Grand Cherokee Limited, that wil be my new station car.
 
I have an '06 GLI with the "Package 2" option set. I really like the car, but the AC does not work properly, the DSG transmission is shifting roughly, the airbag control module has gone out, and the lumbar adjustment motor in the driver's seat has broken. The "soft touch" surfaces in the console have begun to peel as well.



My local dealer refuses to acknowledge the first two issues, but the others have been covered under warranty.

I thought BMW is only one that still did that...I might be wrong and I am sorry if I am. If he keeps the car longer than 4 years its going to get expensive...plus the initial costs of a VW ($24-25K) vs an Audi ($29-30) are a lot different too.
 
That's a lot of rental cars.;)



Honestly it's nice to have a good warranty but I'd prefer to not have to deal with driving the loaner all the time. I prefer reliability to bleeding edge technology.

Free service? I don't think so unless something has changed recently.



It's very sad to say that VWoA, as a corporation, is a disaster. Great cars, horrible service, horrible support, woeful communications.



We've had plenty of their cars over the years. We've been fairly lucky and never suffered any serious failure. However, there are many who haven't been so fortunate.



VW: It's like buying a new car without any warranty (cuz the dealer can't fix them when they break :( )



Again, I really like the products, their service is in the toilet. Didn't they rate lowest in the most recent JD Powers survey?

Yeah, you've got to work hard to take last spot. They're down there with some seedy companions. #34 out of 38, IIRC.
 
Tom I honestly don't know why people continue to buy them. It's like they aren't even making an effort to be any better than last.
 
I am a VW unthusiast. and Being so you wont here me say anything bad about the germans (except the man who put forth the order to start the company). I have a freind that recently bought 07 GTI which she LOVES! I rode in it and it feels AMAZING, that might also be the fact that she is a good driver and we were driving at a track. However, we own a GTI and a jetta. If you are going to get a german car, i would go with a VW. The parts arent as expensive as an audi (i dont think). But they are both REALLLY NICE cars. my cousin is the best audi salesmen in the country (so i also think audis are great cars also). Before making the decission i would go and test drive both cars (or all the cars you are thinking about).
