Those experienced w/ Souveran HELP

Since I joined this site I have abandoned my Zymol( both polish and carbon ) and switched to Souveran paste.

I had recently performed an application of IHG and then Zymol polish with a rotary. The paint was completely devoid of micromarring or swirls. When I received the Souveran I put one coat on. I was very happy with the results, awesome shine.

The car is a garage queen and almost never sees rain. On Saturday the car got rained on as it sat out overnight. In the morning the car was covered with water spots that contained a days worth of pollen and dust. I immediately CCD the car and then used crystal mist with several changes of clean microfibers from Pak Shak. I immediately noticed a significant amount of micromarring, especially on the hood and rear spoiler.

The question is do I simply perform another application of Souveran paste in hopes of hiding the micromarring, or should I strip everything off use the paint cleanser that came in the Souveran kit and start again with the Souveran paste?

The reason I had been using the Zymol polish (yes the cheap one made by Turtle Wax) was that it was a continual single stage process for me. I would routinely apply a new coat every couple of weeks with a rotary and was able to COMPLETELY eliminate/hide the swirls in any light. Occasionally I would top this with my carbon for excellent results. I know this is a little unconventional for this forum's standards but it worked.

Whats is your method for the best results with Souveran?

Sorry this thread was so long, but I would appreciate your recommendations.

Thanks in advance

drrac2- I bet that your CCD/QDing has marred not just the Souveran, but the clear as well. Another coat of Souveran probably won't help, and I honestly think you'll be lucky if the PPCL takes it out.

I've used Souveran for ages on my garage queen and on a few daily drivers. I don't believe the Souveran adds much of a "sacrificial layer", at least with just one application. If you scratch the "wax coating", you'll quite probably also scratch the clear under it, so treat the car with care if that's all you have on it (as opposed to many layers of SG topped with Souveran, for instance).

If the car has been driven, let alone rained on, I wash it. The thought of dried rainwater/pollen/dust mixture...uhm, no way I'd try to clean THAT up with anything except a full wash.

Thats a very interesting notion. I had suspected that the CCD/ QD was to blame, however, in the past I have noticed that washing was responsible for more micromarring than CCD/QD(has anyone else noticed this???). The major difference is that my car is almost never left outside, let alone rained on. Perhaps the rain/dust/pollen was too much for the CCD/QD.

I fear that I have been detailing more than I have been driving lately. I normally never drive the car if there is even a hint of rain. In the summer months I travel to a shore house that has no garage, so if it rains over the weekend I am S.O.L. Should I consider a different system? This is for a black car.

Thanks

If you get more marring with a (wet/normal) wash than with CCD/QDing then I'd reconsider your wash/dry regimen. Between the "two bucket method" and the "perfect drying technique" there shouldn't be any real marring from a regular wash, especially on a pampered car that doesn't get too dirty. There's SOMETHING wrong- the mitt, the soap, the technique, the towels, SOMETHING. Fixing this problem would be my top priority.

Not sure if this would appeal to you, but a few layers of a good synthetic, topped with a good carnauba like your Souveran, would offer a LOT more protection than what you're using now (and more than the Zymol, too). This might be something to consider since you can't wash the car over the weekend if something happens on the way to the shore house.

Thanks for the reply, perhaps I will reconsider my washing technique.

What synthetic do you recommend?

drrac2- Yeah, if you're marring the finish each time you wash you're either gonna have a perpetually swirled car or you'll run out of clearcoat.

For a synthetic, I'd go with either Klasse AIO + SG or PUPP or EX. BFII is popular, but if you get the "BF haze" it'll be a pain on black. See what comments you find on the SG, PUPP, and EX, they're all popular here.
