This guy can't be serious

So I'm on my lunch break waiting for my food to be made and this guy starts up a conversation with me since I was wearing a Subaru shirt (I'm a marketing intern at corpoarte headquarters). Anyway he's asking me all these questions about the new STi that just came out and I'm tellin him about it. Then he starts tellin me that he's in the automotive business also and sells waterless car wash. The stuff is called DRI Wash 'N Guard and he tells me you spray it on and then wipe it off. I'm thinkin to myself this guy is crazy. Thats like sprayin QD on a dirty car and then buffing the dirt into the paint. Real smart. He's tryin to tell me that the product is a polymer that "emulsifies" the dirt. So we go to the parking lot where his brand new 2004 Maxima is sitting (which looked unbelievable and since seein it up close I like it now) and proceeds to whip this stuff out, sprays it on his car and then buffs it out. He's tellin me to look at how clean it made the car. Now of course it's going to take off the dirt but I would think it would also scratch the sh!t out of the paint. I looked at the panel afterwards and could not see any signs of marring or scratching but it was only a light layer of dirt he took off.

This is the website what do you all think?

www.waterless-carwash.net

I'm tellin' ya......

You use that stuff for 6 months and your finish will look 10 years old.

Especially on a dark or black car!

Basically, all it is, is QD!

There's no lubrication to keep the dirt from SCRAPING across the paint surface.

I'd have to be pretty desperate to use that!

And it also looks like a MLM or Network Marketing Company. They probably will not be around long.....

Just took this off the website:

How is it possible to apply DRI WASH 'n GUARD® over a dirty surface?

DRI WASH 'n GUARD® contains 47 ingredients, including wetting agents, lubricants and protectants which have never been used by the car care industry. The detergents and wetting agents in DRI WASH 'n GUARD® combine to soften and emulsify surface grime, while a specific blend of polymeroxane fluids and hydrophenolic lubricants attach a microscopic layer of exclusive PolyGuard-3® to the surface. PolyGuard-3® is an extremely rare (and expensive) substance which provides a bonded layer of protection against any remaining abrasive not broken down by the detergents and wetting agents.

I have never tried the Dri Wash 'n Guard product, though if you try searching I believe you will find some discussion threads. The idea is not out of line however as you will find many people on this forum who use a product called Poorboys Spray & Wipe. Though I can't state any definitive comparisons between the two, I can tell you that I am a very satisfied Spray & Wipe user.

dri wash'n guard has been around for quite some time... I've seen the stuff in action. Total crap if you ask me... there's no way I'd be caught dead using it.

I did infact do a search and read about the Poorboy's stuff. Do you use that to clean a dirty car? Do you experience any scratching?

I remember my parents got their cars detailed with Dri Wash n Guard. I was about 10 at the time. They ended up buying some of the product and I found it about a year ago. It claims clean, polish, and protect. I bet it does.

:D

I pray, for your sake, that no DWG distributors see that comment...I got baited into a massive e-mail debate about the product by a distributor who was posing as a consumer, and wanted to know our thoughts on the product.

Next thing I know, I'm getting dozens of e-mails from various distributors about my opinion on the product. It's worse than saying "Amway makes average products."

:D Just givin' you a heads up, so you'll know what's going on when your e-mail box mysteriously fills up with "people" who want to string you up for saying the product isn't too good. :D

Yeah I missed that one, ok sounds cool.

I mean if DavidB and Scottwax are doing it then it can't be that bad. Looks like I need a duster and some Poorboy's Spray & Wipe. I guess if you keep up on it every other day then there's no harm since there's not much dirt build-up.

Since you're in the detail product buying mood :p, look into threads discussing Leo's DFTowels. I find his towel a wonderfully effective replacement for the CCD. And, like Poorboys S&W very versatile, and I've said it before they are both definite "must haves" in your detail kit.

Well I would look into that if i hadn't just bought $140 worth of detailing stuff from DavidB.

BTW, where do you buy the Poorboy's stuff? And also, MF is good for car dusting? Or are DFTowels different from Autopia detailing towels?

Steve (Poorboy) and Leo (DFTowel) are both members of this forum. Ranney (Pakshak) and Ian (Autofiber.com) both MF sellers can be found here as well. As SLD said, do some searching and all shall be revealed.

Oh, and yes, you can dust with the Concours towel from DFTowel. I do.

LOL.... thanks for the headsup, although I doubt (hope?) nobody from DWG sees it.

And I hear you about amway... being that they're right in our backyard (Grand Rapids- my aunt lives there) we always hear from them...

Yes, I'm very happy with Poorboy's Spray & Wipe. BTW, if memory serves, the URL is www.poorboysworld.com . Have used it after 300-mile drives to Concours events. Never used it on a filthy car, but on a car with normal road dirt, I've been very happy with it. :up

I knew a girl who had a small mobile detailing business and she used Dri-Wash...until she did a few cars with me using QEW and Meguiars products (she helped me out on days she didn't have any details). Within a few weeks, she switched over to what I was using. She got better results more quickly.

My brother uses Dri Wash'n Guard and swear's by it, and he's tried everything from auto zone type products to 3M,Pinnacle P21s etc. Just today I told him that NXT has been getting some good reviews and he said he already tried it, and it was ok but the DWG looks better and is easier to use. He has a black mustang cobra and a silver audi A6 and his cars always looks amazing

I've personally tried Dri Wash when some distributer left it on my car when I attended a wedding in northern Illinois. He left a note on his card that he saw the sign on my car about mobile detailing and he wanted to be my distributer....apparently completely missing that I had Texas plates and my number (including area code) was obviously not local.

I tried it and was disappointed at the lack of slickness and mediocre shine. Auri looks better (yes, I tried that too). The stuff is no more than a glorified QD and way more expensive, enabling the people at the top to get rich off the people at the bottom of their MLM.

Dri Wash does not look better than traditional products. In no way should you waste your money on this crap, or feed the trolls at the top of this MLM scheme.
