This forum is DEAD! Whats going on?

Heres my veiw,be it wrong or right. If ACC had left th forum name alone it would difinitely have helped keep people. 2. Sponsors, such as Poorboys World, inmy opinion, now feel alienated, remember this is my opinion!!!!!!! They to have there own forum that has picked up since ACC took over here and uses autopia as the forum name. 3. The name is NOT distinguishable from the other forum. The change is/was just to much at one time. I would have kept the sponsors that were here. Kept/maybe modified, the forum name such as DETAIL CITY presented by AUTOPIA CAR CARE (not affiliated with Autopia forum). JUST MY IDEA AS FOR NOW. It could all change somewhat in the future, everything always seems to!!!!!! Even in other things that are NOT forums. RANDAL, THE IOWA BOY SITTING HERE WATCHING IT RAIN AND GET MUDDY HERE IN IOWA!!!!

Hi Randal,

I just wanted to reply to this. With the increase in manufacturer support here with names such as Raggtopp, Einszett, Metro Vac, Optimum, Mothers I would think that anyone else that has an opportunity to be a part of the next generation of this forum should put aside their feeling of alienation and be part of something good.

Also, it was stated that if ACC did not do what they did, this forum would have been shut down. That means everything deleted, gone, bye bye. Then none of us would be HERE stating our opinions. I'm happy that they didn't do that.

Is 3 members and 4 guests online right now really an increase???

Some forums are like:
1. Look what I bought - toys
2. Look what I did - wash/wax to full correction
3. Look at my collection
4. Brand x and anyone who disagrees is ignorant.
5. Flavor of the month discussions (CG Blacklight seems to be a recent one)
6. Who are the best detailers (and those that disagree)

7. All of the above would be good I think. Gives people something to talk about.

Then none of us would be HERE stating our opinions.
You would be at another of the many hundreds of forums to choose from stating your opinion.:D

I find the Ford Fusion Forum very interesting. It's the car I drive and it's specific to that brand and model, from A to Z.

R.I.P.

We miss you so

I miss my 80 Chevy Citation but then again I do not. (why I no longer bought a GM product).

I think this forum is fine now. I couldn't stay logged in a few weeks ago (4/8/11) and got fed up trying to search and being kicked off every time. So I figured I'd let the rest of you guys be the guinea pigs/bug testers.

Works perfect for me now. So I'll have to check in more often. Have a LOT of cosmetic work to do on my Torino while the transmission's out *groan*.

Where did everyone go? Is it just me or did this forum have many more active members a couple of years ago?

Boring...

:wall:wall:wall:wall:wall

I'm glad that you've started this discussion because I am feelin the exact same way. Although I've only been a member since October of 2010, I was an avid viewer every day until about March. Now it seems like the only posts that are being posted are discounts to their "new" products... the only people posting anything are "administrators" or owners of products.

I've recently posted a topic in which I had not one reply. Two months ago, I would've actually learned something..

I hate the new layout. It really is terrible, I can't emphasize that enough..The old one was much better, easier to read, navigate, etc...I used to post quite a bit but I only come on once a week now because I just can't stand the new layout...Pockets is right, RIP the old DC....I think this forum would be great if it got the old layout back, and included some of the things from other forums, such as a "Tips and Tricks" section, I'm sure others would have more ideas....But to answer Garry's original question, yeah you are right the forum has died down a little bit in the past few years.

I hate the new layout.

My primary gripe is that the left side of the window is wasted. The problem is that it seems like these small changes take forever to get fixed including the "Mark Forums Read" option under Quick Links.

For example, when you reply to a thread the previous posts are posted below in reverse order. This is how the default viewing window should be.

My observation of the new ownership is that its not dead. What I have noticed and expected, is the new threads are started by AG or PBMA sponsors or employees, Talking about a product and how to use it, or a sale / new item being introduced.

What you don't see AS MUCH is someone asking for help on a product or process. What's interesting to me is that when someone does start a thread asking the above mentioned. There is a small core of new members that chime in. If this new ownership was to improve the information or help, then where are the so called experts to lend advice to those few threads?

In the days of the ODC there was always a decent amount of help coming from quite a few members. To the likes of Steve at PB.

So is it dead? no, but its a far cry from what it was! :D

I have stayed out of this thread for the reason of not being a senior member of the ODC. But at this point I would like to give my opinion on this matter. When I originally joined ODC I was excited that I could ask questions and read information from members that seemed to be more "detailers" than enthusiasts or paid spokes people. And for the most part that is what I have done. I have read almost every thread that has been started since joining as well as going back through the archives.

My complaint with the ODC was this… When I first joined I was eager to ask questions about products or processes. Soon into my joining I asked a couple questions about product for vendors not related to AGO or PB as I was under the impression that ODC was an open forum to talk about all things. It was pointed out to me my multiple Senior member that ODC was then predominantly a PB only forum and that they did not really talk about other product other than the ones also carried by AGO as ODC was owned by Dwayne at the time. This in its own way kind of turned me off to ODC a little as I had very little exposer to the PB line of product and did not have the wherewithal to go out and buy the full to use. I am after all not a professional detailer but an enthusiast that enjoys detailing and picks up weekend jobs when he can.

Now let’s be honest the ODC was an old template with very little in the way of new and fresh updates or ideas. I do agree the fact that new layout is not optimal, but IMO it is a step in the right direction. I personally would like to see and new and fresh idea on the whole Forum concept. IMO the vBulletin design and concept has been well used and is played out at this point by many detailing and non-detailing forums.

So the “new” AutopiaForums is different than the senior members are used to or care for. But it is my opinion and experience that at time as hard or unwanted as change is; it can be a good thing in the process of progress. But in the grand scheme of thing it is not the owners or the vendors that make a forum what it is. It is the members that participate on a regular basis. I wish that the original and senior member of ODC would come back out and participate here. The wealth of knowledge that they held and dispensed was invaluable. This is our chance to most likely have the most say in the direction and content of any detailing website we will ever be a part of. So please come to AutopiaForums and participate. Without everyone this will be a very boring place.
