Thinking of trying the VM + EX-P combo, but "EX-P" or "EX"?

How do you guys decide which to buy... if you were only going to get one? The original EX, or EX-P?

I understand that EX-P is a pure sealant, no carnuaba. But... still, is one better than the other, and why?

Thanks.

I like VM + EX-P on light colors and would probably use EX on dark if I had some...but I'd get a second opinion if I were you. Your question deserves a better answer then this.

I'm going the other way. I have EX and not EX-P. I bought EX long before EX-P debuted. I like the look on the vehicles I've used it on (darker colors) enough that I haven't added EX-P to my mix. (yet?)

I can't be certain since I don't have EX-P, but I doubt you will be disappointed with the performance of either product. That is if you take the necessary steps to prepare your finish first.

No, actually your answer is pretty good. If I could only have one, it would be tough since I like them both. Regular EX is a touch more versitile since it works a bit better in the sun (EX-P can dust up slightly). EX-P has a more clear shine so it is amazing on metallics. EX has a deeper look so it excels on solid dark colors.

here is dacp, 9, vm and ex-p on a very abused wrx i did yesterday

Having used both EX and EX-P I would vote for EX on dark colors and EX-P on light colors or metallics.

I didnt use either over VM thiough I put them over PwC.

I guess part of the reason I'm stuck on the decision is because I'm trying not to get immediately sucked in to that trap of buying too many different products and then not knowing when to use them or which to grab off the shelf (although I've already been showing those tendencies...).

My arsenal so far consists of mostly Meguiar's products

For waxes, I have: #26, DC step 3, GC, and P21S (barely tried yet).

For polymer synthetics, I have: #20 and NXT

To me, I'm not sure that #20 and NXT are necessarily true sealants... they seem more like wax-polymer blends. They are both great products and I like them, but I'm not sure if picking up EX would be just more of the same, or not.

I haven't ventured to try Zaino, Klasse, Wolfgang, UPPP, or any of the other "sealants" yet, which is why I thought if I was going to buy one more LSP maybe I should get EX-P instead of EX. Until EX-P came out, lots raved of EX. Now I hear way more about EX-P than EX.

Its true that all my cars are on the dark side (no pun) - black, dark metallic red, and dark green. But is that the only deciding factor going EX vs. EX-P? Will EX-P last longer because its a pure sealant? Can it be topped easier BECAUSE its a pure sealant? Is EX-P any more or less fussy about what's applied beneath it?

I'm planning to pick up some VM right away, and was thinking of getting either EX or EX-P to try with it.

Thanks.

I cant say for sure as I havent had EX-P that long but I would say it should have better longevity than EX do to it being a "pure sealent".

I got 3 months out of PwC, EXx3 topped with P21S. I used this on my black truck and couldnt be more happy with the way it looked.

EX-P is known for its clearity and not the depth. It provides a surface that is alot clearer and reflective but not the depth.

I really dont think you can go wrong either way. In the end its "up to you"

Here is a pic of my black truck with PwC, EXx2

I tried the VM/EX-P combo on my red Ford F150 and was very impressed with the results. The finish was very clear, bright, and reflective. I know how you feel about the products. I have:

Wolfgang

NXT

EX-P

S100

Pinnacle Souveran

Klasse SG

VM

Sometimes its hard to figure out what you want to use.

I was impressed with NXT on my truck before EX-P. I was hoping to top NXT with S100 to see how it would turn out.

All and all I don't think you will be disappointed with EX-P. I have found that thin is better to prevent dust.

On a side note, how does VM work with the LSP's I already have?

VM + NXT?

VM + P21S?

VM + GC, or #26?

etc.

Should I even bother with EX-P (or EX) at all?

I have VM + EX-P on silver and on a maroon metallic and both look terrific. EX-P is very clear and both the above paints are high metallic content and really "pop".

Assuming your using this combo on your black car in the avatar, I would reccomend the EX-P. I definately think you should be using the P21s a little more. It will look great over VM on your black car. *I* also think its the easiest product to work with out of the rest of them. The EX-P will give you a clear look on your black vs a really deep and darken carnuaba look from the P21s. This also gives you more options on different cars you do, or different looks for your car. Getting the EX is just adding another carnuaba to your list.

I like EX-P on all colors I have tried it on. Like others have mentioned, it looks very clear, reflective and wet, but not as deep as a carnauba would be. When I was at the Autopia/Meguiars meet, I recognized the EX-P look on the two black vehicles there that had it.

This is how it looks on black:
