Thinking of getting a steam cleaner for undercarriage prep, any recommendations?

I want something that is going to be easy to use in tight spaces. I tried doing some searches on the web but couldn't find anything appropriate.

Thanks in advance.

I've used a "Steam Buggy" for tough tasks, this style of steamer seems to work well for automotive jobs

I've had good experiences using a small hand held steam cleaner for the engine bay. I'm sure it would work well for getting in all of the little nooks and cranies on the undercarriage as well.

The steam cleaner I use has a 1.5 foot extention hose which makes it easy to get around stuff.

I once took the paint off the front bumper/spoiler of a customers GT3 (it had be repainted and was repainted again under warranty)with a Karcher steam cleaner, the really big ones that run on diesel and are like a pressure washers.pretty good but I susspect we are'nt talking about this type.

Father in law bought a small hand held steam cleaner last Year but took it back for a refund as he wasnt impressed.

I find a pressure washer and degreasser is quite adequate. I once took paint off a works van with a steam cleaner! ( also a diese-Karcher steam cleaner)

RichPug306xsi- nice undercarriage :bow

I've had mixed results with steam cleaners. I have a DeLONGHI steam cleaner, but I hardly EVER bother getting it out. It DOES work pretty well for this sort of thing, though.

I used to have a fairly big, propane powered one that was good for really awful jobs, but a hassle and mess to use. And like the even bigger ones, it could do some damage.

The little hand-held ones didn't last for me, and the last one (Bissel, I think) burned me but good when it failed.

Like Bill D, my late father REALLY liked his Steam Buggy. Used it to clean all sorts of stuff. It might be a good, reasonable way to go for this sort of thing

hasnt anybody else seen the infomercial with the shark portable steamer? it completly details a classic mustang by itself!!
