Thinking about leaving fliers

Hey guys, in an effort to get me off the ground I'm considering leaving fliers on the nicer cars I see around campus or town. Fliers around town would be formatted with "PRICES AS LOW AS..." while fliers I'd leave around my college campus would include a "coupon" for "STUDENT RATES."

Based off this information, can you guys make any marketing suggestions as to what has worked/not worked in regards to posting fliers on windshields?

If you do choose to flyer the general rule of thumb is about a 1% return. Personally I get extremely agitated when someone leaves something on my car. I think a much better way of drumming up new business is simply talking to people. The majority of my customers have been referred by other customers and people that I have talked to about cars.

For me, if you put anything on my windshield, you will not be getting my buisness.

I would preffer you walk up to me and say "hey, you have a nice car, if you ever want it detailed here is my card".

As already mentioned, the return on flyers is usually not that good. Some do get angry when you leave them on cars, however, I have received some business by doing this. You can also leave flyers in businesses, and also on people's home doors. The key with flyers, is to have a good design and make them look professional.

Personally wouldnt' put them on car windshields, but you might drive around and find a few really nice neighborhoods with big houses and put some in the mailbox or put them around the door knobs......

I agree with the personal greeting and business card approach. Get youself some business cards and carry some with you at all times. Talk to people and be ready to hand them a card so they will be able to get in touch with you.

The other thing to keep in mind is that detailing is usually thought of as a high priced quality service. It is much better to always focus on the quality aspect of the service. When you talk to people, always try to stress the benefits, not the price.

What about sticking around door knobs like I get stuck in my door all the time??:wall

its called mailbox stuffing and its illegal...walk around to houses and leave them on door knobs or floor mats, not on cars....

i have done both for over 500 total of each as a testing grounds in different neighborhood. I got more calls off the houses compared to the cars....I would leave my business cards in the driver side window in the trim, and leave postcards on the floormats, or on a ledge next to the door in plain sight...the return was minimal compared to word of mouth, but the business is still there, and I got a referral from doing it...

go around on your day off and strum up some business...
