Think I got my hands on a rotary...need some help

it was my first time...
Well yesterday my parents took a ride to my grandparents. Anyway my father was telling my grandfather how I was into detailing, and my grandfather asked if I had any machines. My dad said no, so my grandfather says lemme see what I got in the cellar. Well my parents came back with some sort of polisher. I believe its a rotary. Well I did a little searching online for the same model I have. The one I have is a Wen 7" 2 Speed Sander*Polisher Model 943...1600 Max RPM. I snapped some pictures but who knows when that will get developed so I attached a link of one similiar I found online. The one online is a little newer looking, and mind doesn't have the handle. It does have a little fancy metal screw where the handle goes, I'm guessing I can add a handle to it? Anyway I know rotarys can be dangerous and I'm still questioning if I should use this one. It also has a sander pad attached to it. I tried unscrewing it but its like all one piece, I would take it apart a little more but I'm to tired to get my hands dirty. Anyway tell me what you guys think...I think i'll prob buy some stuff for it and play around with it on my father's car which has really bad paint and maybe see if I can buy/find an old car panel to pratice on before it touches any other finish. Before anything I wanna do a lot of reading up on rotarys and proper usage. Well i'll prob have more questions, so i'll ttyl.

TIA

See if tool/power tool shops have replacement handles. I don't know for sure, but I imagine the handle for some other tool should work too.

If I got one of these free, I would at least try to learn how to use it (on junk panels, as you say). Hopefully it's got a velcro backing plate, otherwise you might be able to stick on a velcro adapter disc to it so that you can use the standard foam pads.

A few people use this or have used it IIRC.... I guess you've tried a few searches but found little on this rotary?

Here's the current model (same model number by the way): http://wenproducts.com/multi_943.asp
