Thin scratch (10 inches) - should I worry?

After washing the Cayenne today, I noticed there's a very thin (as thin as Hair) scratch that's about 10 inches long. Not sure where it came from...hopefully it's not during the wipe-down.



I couldn't feel it when running my finger over it. I tried polishing with Merzerna SIP, 106FF, and put on 1Z Glanz Wax...nothing could make it go away.



It's hard to see it...nly if you look very closely.



What I am worried is will it rust? What should I do at this point?

Is it down to bare metal? That is the only way it will rust. It sounds like surface scratch. Try a

product like scratch x to take it out and then finish it from there. Tuff to really tell without pictures. If you can not feel it, it doesn't sound that bad to remove. Good luck. Joe

Maybe it's one of those Porsches with Audi-like hard clear. Even light marring on that can take numerous passes with a rotary/orange/moderate compound.



KaiYenS- Are you working by rotary or PC. The last time I removed a RIDS from an Audi with the PC it took *forever*, and removing them with the rotary doesn't happen in two passes either (at least not with foam pads).

That's true... I guess I'm mainly interested in seeing a high-res photo if possible...
 
Thank you for all your help, gentlemen... I tried to take a photo but it didn't show. It's too thin... I'll see if I have another way to take this...might need a macro lens. :p

I think I'd settle for "much better" as opposed to trying for complete removal. I'm usually erring on the side of caution where this stuff is concerned, but in the absence of an ETG I'd live with a bit of marring that's *that* hard to see/photograph.



Maybe another pass or two, but if it's rounded over to the point that it doesn't really show, I myself would say "good enough". At least for now...you can always go at it again next time you polish.



This talk of "I don't *think* I can catch it with my fingernail"...well, if there's a *chance* that you can I probably wouldn't want to take it out completely. One-third of a mil isn't much paint ;)
