The Unofficial *Official* Politics Thread

That’s a bit rich given the number of times “libturds” is regularly used on this site w/o hesitation.

I don`t think so Angus. I don`t think they would have let this thread stay open.
Face it, we`ve all walked that tight rope pretty well.

Sorry to disappoint you, Ron. But I’ve seen that insult used more times then I care to mention.

You and I may walk that tight rope, but not everyone else does.

Angus, I’m not calling you out on this, I have to believe you saw what you claim. I really think that term would hit my sensitivity button (which I have frequently been told is too sensitive) and I’d have changed it if I could have saved the post or pulled the post if not. I don’t remember removing or changing that term in any posts and I see most every post. That said, the search function on our board leaves a bit to be desired but it didn’t bring that term up in any of searches that I performed when looking for it. Our search function doesn’t search the text of articles that have been copied as a pic or pdf.

For the most part members of this forum are to be commended. We’ve covered a lot of sensitive topics over the years. These topics simply fail on other forums and yet members here have shown restraint and had positive discussions on sensitive subjects.

Threads thrive when discussion is open and when posts are not taken personally but more importantly when firery posts aren’t directed at any one person. Opinions are great, insults not so much. I’d like to say thanks to all forum members for allowing threads like this to remain open.

I would suggest you stop the name calling.

Ron, over the past few weeks I`ve provided specific examples of how your comments have been misguided at best. One day you`ll brag about how you`re always willing to listen to both sides and how you`re always using several news sources.....the next day you`ll post completely unsubstantiated fake news articles (for instance claiming the Florida shooter was a registered democrat) because it aligns with your biases and prejudices. I assume you`ll completely ignore this post and keep barrelling forward like you`ve done for virtually all of my previous posts.

So, even though I`ve seen MUCH worse "name calling" on this forum than referring to people as "cons" or "libs"...Here`s an example of a post you made not that long ago using the term "Libs"

Soon to come: Libs complaining about "obscene" profits and the need to redistribute the wealth with higher taxes

For example: Page 3, post #39 of this thread:

Yep, I saw that earlier. It`s absolutely incredible how libtards manage to believe their own BS.

Gearhead, please note, I do appreciate your work as a moderator and overall fairness when it comes to managing post here on Autopia

On a side note, can you talk to someone about the search function? I have to agree - it’s terrible.

I learned a long time ago to try and post my source.... Which on that post I id. Did I research it no. A. Laziness. B. I really don`t care what his party affiliation was/is he is a nut job pure and simple. C. source was a well known "liberal biased" publication.

As far as "lib" I never really thought it was derogatory where as "con" is a definite slur. Lib being short for "liberal". What is the meaning/usage of "con"?

@Ron, I always considered Con the short for conservative, it didn’t bother me. I’ve let that one ride.

@Angus, thanks for the example, I’ve pulled that post.

That reminded me of a story I heard on NPR. It was a British politician with a thick cockney English accent that was going on and on about what I thought he was saying, `night crimes` and that it was becoming an epidemic. The story wasn`t making much sense until I realized that he was saying `knife crimes`.

I wish that was our only worry.

Yes, Lib is short for liberal. Con is short for conservative. I think you`ve been associating the abbreviation for conservative with a "con artist" which is defined as the persuasion of someone to do or believe something, typically by use of deception.

It`s confusing because they are two completely different words that share the same definition.

Just kidding.
