The tree sap got me

Not sure how this happened but either yesterday or today I may have parked close to a tree. Got some mild tree sap on my hood, roof and some side body panels, I noticed it when I saw little dots on my hood, felt the hood, you guessed it: lots of bumps!

My truck was fairly dusty(4 days worth) and I was not sure if i should wipe it down or not but I didnt want that tree sap to etch in and be a real pain to remove in the future.

So I wiped it down with some Last Touch and a Supreme Shine microfiber. And after a few panels there was a black film at the end of the rag.

My trucks paint is real soft, easy to put swirls in but easy to take out. I already have minimal swirling but Im sure its much worse now

looks like a full detail is coming up.

but as for the tree sap :banghead::banghead:

I hate that stuff! But this time of year, it's almost unavoidable.

The best thing I've found is to wash the vehicle with a really high quality, super sudsy car wash soap and a thick soft lambswool mitt. If you have a lot of wax or sealant on the vehicle, that will protect it.

If the sap hasn't been on there too long, it usually works. (You have to get it within 24 hours!)

Some detail sprays will take it off, but a good wash seems like the best option, unless the sap has been on there too long.

I hate tree sap!! I have a lady near me that asked an easy way to remove it since she parks right under crape mertals everyday and doesnt like the imense amount of sap they produce!! She didnt like when I told her the only way to avoid it is if she washes it everyday or unless she stops parking by those dang trees :D

Try this

I spray a little P21s total auto wash a let it sit a bit. I have a bug scrubber sponge. The yellow ones. Proper Auto Care has them. Dip it in a wash bucket of car shampoo and good bye tree sap. Scrub away the sponge will not scratch your paint. You have to get it when it's fresh.

It really depends on how bad the tree sap is. I've had sap that can be removed with a simple car wash...

I've seen SEVERE sap globs that have required turpentine!!!! (Now there's one I should have taken pictures of!)

If one is using some solvents, just be a little careful in using them on the finish of your ride.

Well,

tonight I squeezed in some time to give my truck a bath, I took Bill's advice and used a sudsy slippery car wash, Meguiars M62 Shampoo and Conditioner.

The tree sap was mild I guess since it came right off. There is some areas where I feel a light bump, I tested those areas with clay and they came off.

Hopefully I can give it a full detail soon.
