The top of SUV's

I was wondering when you do a job, for a person. I know when we detail (rotary or pc) the hood and side doors and the back. But do you really hit the top like all others. Or do you just clay it and wax it?. I just want to know, do we have to buff it all out on top, like the hood?

Pls your advise.

Honestly, if it was my car, I would definetly do it.

If it was a customers, and they really don't care much about car care in the first place, I would just do a one step. Something like ZAIO and Poli-Seal.

On my own SUV (or relatives/friends) yes. On a customer's SUV I do a 1-step (Mother's or Meguiar's or Sonax cleaner/wax or Optimum Polish/Optimum Car Wax or ZAIO).

I do the top/roof of any vehicle that I do the same as the rest of the panels. If I ask someone what they want done to the roof and they say just put some wax on it, then that is a different story.

So this brings up the question: what do you do about those rain channels? I worry about polishing near those because the paint must be thinner on the edges.

Good point. I'd get them marring free once and then do everything within my power to keep them that way. Unless somebody uses a roof rack I wouldn't expect much marring up there anyhow (as long as washing is done carefully). I hardly ever have to polish the roof of the MPV, haven't had the Blazer long enough for that to be significant.

I must admit that I do not polish the roof of my SUV. Usually do a cleaner wax and top with LSP. Sometimes I clay but that's about it.

It will be really nice if you do have sunroof in your SUV. Just like my Sequoia, I would just adjust the driver seat and front passenger seat forward then I would get in in the second row, open my sunroof then stand up. Whoalla, there you go!!! It is much way easier for me to do my roof because of my sunroof. Then if you can't fit in your sunroof? What can I say! Just get a tall ladder I guess!:nixweiss

I have back problems and I HATE even washing roofs on an SUV. I have a tall ladder to do them with but leaning over with the PC is killer. I usually clay and wax the roof cause my back can't take too much more.

Wondering if opening each of the four doors when needed and standing on car seat or on bottom of door jam wearing something soft like socks.

I don't do nearly the same amount of polishing on the roof and hood for one very simple reason: They are the two spots on the car that take the worst abuse of environmental conditions. Think about it: How many CC failures do you see on the side of a beater?

Therefore, I usually clay, paint cleaner, and seal *my* SUV roofs.

Wait till that person takes your newly prepped and waxed vehicle through one of those car washes with the big brushes that roll/spin over the roof (High TeK wet sanding) of your vehicle:D

I could show you 100's with the clear coat and most of the paint gone from the roof, and the people keep going back, go figure:werd:

But Accumulator (Professor), I'll let this one slide as you were speaking in "First person".:chuckle:

Changeling- Heh heh, yeah...there are some things wouldn't readily occur to me, and driving a vehicle through a brush-style carwash is one of 'em :D I honestly don't know anybody who would do that, don't even know of such a place :nixweiss

I just had the fun of a Landrover Discovery II Need a huge ladder to reach the rear hump..

Even with 2 sunroofs there's a ton of sheet metal up there
