The squeak test

After detailing a hood of a car that was from a Nissan Extera SUV, I noticed that the finish squeaked as I rubbed my hand over it. This was even after I had compounded, polished, glazed and waxed it!

I have done this "squeak test" many times to cars that my mentor details and never have they felt squeaky to the touch, no matter HOW hard I pressed. Can someone elaborate on what that sound means, if anything, about the overall finish quality???

The first time I used Menserna IP & FP, when I towelled off the IP the paint squeeked. Since applying AIO and Souveran, no squeeks anywhere. I take that to mean the squeek after IP meant the paint was really, really clean and smooth.

I actually thought the opposite. That the paint wasn't clean enough but, since I polished it well i figured it couldnt get any better. I was using a high speed compound and IP topped with a thick pigmented glaze and collinite insulator wax.

I've always thought that the squeaking was from a clean, bare surface. By bare, I mean no waxes, oils, etc...

I've noticed that when my surface is totally bare, I get the squeak. If I use a product with oils/fillers, waxes, etc..., I don't get the squeak.
