The softest paint ever created!!!!!!!

Garry Dean

Garry Dean Quality!
Its on the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder Ive been working on for 2 days!

The vehicle was black from the factory, but was recently repainted black. Its so soft that I pretend to like it so it wont scratch when I turn away!

If you think a ghost is marring your car you should inspect your microfiber towels. I went through 4 brands before I realized I needed to add some lubrication before removing the polish residue. FTS!

What a PITA!

just sayin!

I feel your pain, Garry; sounds similar to the nightmares I've had with BMW Jet Black. Just breathing on it causes marring.

Hopefully you're Opti-Coating it so it becomes a bit more scratch/mar resistant?

This paint is unlike any I've ever dealt with.

Opti-guard will happen after I slay this fiery beast.

I slap BMW jet black in the face and call it my *****... This is a different monster!

I call ********. The repainted Porsche I worked on today...I kid you not..just touching it scratched it. There was NO WAY POSSIBLE to remove anything off the paint without scratching it. I beat my head against a wall for almost 5 hours before I just had to say...nothing can work. I had to settle for a lower amount of correction that I prefer to get. Plus I feel for the owner because there is nothing they can do too upkeep the car.

In know how you feel. I am about 22 hours into a black street rod. The paint is so soft that the only thing not marring the crap out of it is 85RD on blue B&S. Even Scholl S30 on the blue pad was marring it. Why are these clears so damn soft?

Our '99 flat black 328IS is similar...I've mentioned this before. Under lights, I barely touch it with my finger and there you have...scratches! The best I've had is Menz. Micro Polish with foam finishing pads. That said, after a few washes...blah!!!

Flat black, is it a vinyl wrap? If so you may be able to heat out the scratches with a heat gun. Just depends on which brand of film was used.

I've dealt with soft black paint that I simply could not wash without marring until I got wax on it. Couldn't wash it again after polishing until I had waxed it. :wall

Sorry to hear of your troubles Gary, I did a 2010 SL65 Black Series Coupe and it was the worse clear coat to deal with as it scratched with any towel/QD. And no, it wasn't ceramiclear, the car is a built from a carbon fiber substrate and shipped out of factory to be painted. Needless to say that car is on my $hitlist now, but I'll be damned if it doesn't look cherry.

Got any pics of the car? 2010 SL65 Black Series Coupe.....yummy!

You jokers have no idea about soft paint until you come to my house and see my wife's NHBP re-painted Honda. The stock paint is soft, the repaint is like butter. This sh!tty respray thinks Poli-seal is a compound, and after 6-ish years, already has massive CC failure on the repsrayed hood. For this reason, I've completely given up messing with her car. It's just not worth my time or sanity.

What are the chances that Nissan repainted it with their "healing" paint?

Cheers,

GREG

ps. if this was a body shop repaint, I'm guessing they didn't mix in the catalyzer correctly? I bet they were trying to get it to lay flat thus reducing orange peel?

Soft paint?

Yeah, know that one, last fall I shot the frame on an old m/c we were restoring.

Forgot to add the activator.

Three days later if you picked it up, your hand print was in it.

See, even us old farts screw up on occassion.

Had to reblast it off and start over with the acid etch primer, etc.

There went a few bucks down the drain.

Grumpy

I agree,

Guys... got to make sure its not aftermarket refinishing.

Common problems in any 2K product with improper procedures can be such as this. This means bondo, adhesives, paint...etc

Companys are always coming out with new lines of clears, The only one i am familiar with is the Sikkens Exclusive. I had a hell of a mistake with a toyota. Had to do a respray on a panel. I got it too hot with rotary and piled clearcoat in a rippled pool like manner(thank god i had a nice customer).

I do know that they are able to be sanded and polished just like specially forumulated hard and soft clears. the self corrective clearcoat is formulated with a special catalyst so that underlying clear is still able to flow especially with heat. so scratches are supposed to be easier to correct.

I spent the first 3 hours of a long paint correction on a factory black 1 year old Toyota Tacoma testing different polishes and pads/speeds/pressures until I found something that wouldn't haze. Even wiping with a fresh plush MF dampened with OID (which is pretty oily to begin with) showed fresh marring. I'm sure custom soft paint is even less forgiving but this was my nightmare...

my shoftest paint experience would have to be a 2008 bmw m3. It almost seemed like no matter wat i did i was only scratching the paint rather then fixing it. but 10 hours later it looked like this:
