The single most effective detailing product I've ever used!

ZL1Mark

Allergic to One Product
There are two things in detailing I do not enjoy to do at all. One, taping off, two, claying! IN COMES THE HI-TECH SPONGE CLAYBLOCK!! This product is simply awesome! :rockon It slices through contaminants like nobody's business! You do not need to use a lot of pressure. Saves A LOT of elbow grease! You don't need to knead the damn thing after every panel! The sponge backing allows it to conform to the surface. You can grip it MUCH better than clay. If you drop it, simply rinse it off. Saves A LOT of time!!! I actually don't mind claying at all now! :D I used it on a light colored car. Didn't notice any marring. Then again, it wasn't black. Even IF it slightly marrs the paint, no big deal, just polish it out. I've know about this product for a long time, but never jumped on it until after Garry Dean's review. I'm VERY GLAD I did. What an effective product!!!! Clayblock.......:yourrock

FWIW, Hi-Tech makes the claybock for CG and Ultima.

My favorite DC!!

LOL...I won't change my mind about this product, just like I won't for Tyromania!!

I would suspect it fairly aggressive by the way it cuts through grime. However, I didn't notice any marring on the lght blue metallic I used it on.

So if you dont knead it or fold it ,what then happens to the
contaminants?

Do they wash/rinse away? What lube do you use ?

Thanks Mark!:yourrock

I'm not sure, but the contaminants don't stick to the clayblock like clay.

I use poorboy's spray and wipe as libe.

:D

Yeah, but you're a woman; we expect that.

What's Mark's excuse? :rofl

:D

So did you get the block as part of the Ultima kit, or did you just buy the Magna High-Tech sponge from ADS (same thing)?

I'm curious how Ultima's "gel" lube compares to SW or other more traditional clay lubes....

lol...doh!

I bought the Hi-Tech from ADS. SW worked good, but I'm sure there's something better. Ultima gel lube?

We are both just smart thats all!:D

I think we both get excited easily about a product in the beginning .........but

it takes working with a product on a few cars to really evaluate it and thats why we change our minds sometimes !Or sometimes the opposite happens and you dont like a product until you know how to use it properly! :inspector:

Thank you for your review Mark! I'm in! I've been thinking about it forever and was going to get the Ultima but the price was so high. Then. Almost bought the cheap version but they tried to get me on shipping (amazon). Then I spoke with the owners of Ultima at DF and they told me the Ultima is different than others and actually had a discussion about how it actually contains some clay. Well, a few of my friends have been talking about it including you and after your review I'm getting it next time I order. Which one? Ahhhhhhggggg! I don't know! :rofl. But going to get one soon

Premium Finish Care is working on the price for the kit as well as breaking it up and making the block and the lubricant gel available separately at autogeek. The price should be much better.

Just my .02 of insider info.

I honestly thought they were the same. Sorry about the misinformation. I wonder why they added some clay to it?

Maybe you are right Mark. Maybe the misinformation is on my part based on what I was told by them.

As far as the clay: Well, there was some back and forth between the guys on that very point. I would get some more info on that but havent been able to get hold of Sam in some time. Not sure why but he never returns my calls anymore... Maybe changed his phone number? I'll just hope thats what it is.

Hi Tech Magna Sponge claims that soapy water is also a good lubricant. I like that. No need to buy/waste expensive lubricants anymore either.

I'm not waiting for it to come out elsewhere. I ordered mine at ADS while it's on sale.

Thanks Mark!

It might be good for claying pre polishing during a full detail, but if you're only "spot claying" here and there, during a wash for example, and it mars, then you've created more work for yourself, but if it doesn't, then that's great. Also, does it remove the LSP?

I agree, I never have and probably never will buy a "clay lubricant". I use ONR which has always worked great.

Garry, who told you this? Rick or Sam?

Hey Mark, when I saw the title of this thread I was sure you were going to say OPC!! :rofl

I got to differ a tad on this clay sponge. I was giving one by a supplier well over two years ago. My first impression was it will remove surface contaminants, but I noticed a fair amount of marring. Sure it can be polished out, but for me the purpose of claying a car is not to induce marring unless you are removing overspary or the likes of that.

All that said the one I was using did its job, but I stopped using it. Maybe these new ones such as what the OP posted are upgrades from the one I had.

I hope it has been upgraded too as to not instill marring because the concept of this product is very interesting and sounds like it has the potential to totally replace traditional clay.

:rofl :rofl

I'm sure you and many others!

On a side note, as far as the ultima one having some clay, that kinda takes away been able to rinse it if you drop it. Even the slightest amount of clay is sticky.

I have heard this from almost everyone thats used these type of products. That it's great for when you are going to polish but do NOT use it unless you are polishing because it does mar the paint.

:lol2: :rockon

Yes, it was a very interesting conversation and I never got to the bottom of it. I can't be sure if it has clay or not because the Ultima guys didn't seem to agree on if it did or didn't. The last word was said by on of the owners that it did but then we got going on another subject.

Maybe it has clay mixed into the synthetic material somehow...

Another thing they told me was to be careful with cheaper ones because they will start to delaminate and can scratch. :inspector:
