The S2000

I shot a few of these last year after detailing (or was the detailing in prep for the shoot?), but thought I'd share them here for the heck of it. Enjoy...

no retouching, some color adjustments, otherwise straight outta the camera:

And a 1600x1200 desktop I made for the folks over at s2ki.com...

Thanks for looking!

SilverBelle04 is right... long exposures, relative darkness... I know it doesn't look it, but this was shot going under 10mph... it's just that it was about a 6-8second exposure... The whole rig was hanging about 3-4 feet off the side of the car.

Glad you dig it. Thanks.

Lee: it's a convertible, it all blows out the top! :) Seriously, though - cleaning the inside of the top after 5 years was a PITA... nasty stuff, that...

tde: thanks... that was on Clarendon blvd in Arlington, heading toward that new shopping center with the Pottery Barn and Apple Store - you might know it. It was shot with a Canon 10D & 16-35/2.8 lens @ 16mm

I know this is an embarassing photo, alas... the things I'll do for my "art" hehe...

No car paint was harmed in the making of this photograph. :D

Wow nice shot. OBTW, the way you mounted your camer w/the side tri pod. Won't you worry about some incoming car or truck going knock it out?

Nice photography.

You have some skill. Unfortunetly I would have to pay someone to make my pictures look that good.

s2000 = the win.

I'd very much like to do some more automotive photography along these lines. I've been considering building a front-mounted camera bracket for some really dramatic angles. This particular setup was a little nerve-racking, but I had an assistant to flag down approaching cars (working on one-way streets). It also was sort of unique to the car, in that the geometry just worked well with the tripod, so I don't know that it'd adapt well to other cars.

Thanks for the interest :)

My photo rig is a bit safer than the one shown. I managed to get my hands on one of the old bolt on U-Haul trailer hitches, and made a simple armature that locks into it. If you can weld, square stock is cheap and fits in perfectly. I use a simple grade 8 bolt to hold the whole shebang together. I might be home (Mount Vernon, VA) the middle of June, and can try and post pics then. The camera is about two feet out( to the side) from the outer edge of my bumper. ;)

fire_storm: that sounds more along the lines of what I'd LIKE to do... they make some pretty complex (and expensive) rigs for this kind of shoot, but talking with folks who do this professionally, they seem to tend to just ride in other vehicles and pace the subject car, often times using a gyro stablizer... Or a lot of post-production work in photoshop...

I'm so busy right now with other work I can't even begin to think about a car mount :)

What kind of camera is that? I assume you used a remote or did a friend start the exposure just before you started rolling?

Excellent picture. :up

Thanks. It's a Canon 10D... The remote is strapped to the rig, too - it's Canon's Timer Remote, which I set to take pix every so-many seconds. Each run would net me 10 photos or so, which I'd review and then decide if I needed to go back again. Did about half a dozen passes for that night shot.
