Regarding that Snapchat article, I suppose its just *too* inconsiderate to mention Darwinism, but hey a short while ago such people were simply eaten by wild animals and that didnt take out as many innocent bystanders.

In the news video I saw she had a picture taken herself after they strapped her on the board. Very sad that innocent person were hurt. I see some cities want to make texting while driving akin to drunk driving.

Here it is. I think the punishments for texting and driving should be similar to as if one was under the influence. But that would require checking phone records on scene and that could cause quite a stir. Although I feel if its determined that texting was the root cause or a witness notifies police on scene it should be similar to as if they had probable cause to search your car. Still could be a lot of issues and push back though.

There is a machine available to interrogate phone on scene. It is being evaluated by law enforcement and the lawyers............

It is interesting that Dennis Hasserts (the longest serving GOP speaker of the house) conviction for hush money on his admitted child molester crime does not get more news.

CNN breaking news -- sun is rising....

I doubt it he will be in some minimum security country club prison. I am not a God guy, but I sure hope there is a Hell for that guy to burn in forever.

Yeah, I to wish it were considered Important News.

Eh, they made a big deal out of his getting 15 months :(

I know they convicted him for the $ transfer and not the actual molestation, but IMO that sack of [crap] oughta rot for the rest of his life both for what he did and as a message to others.

Heres hoping he gets his in the pokey

No, no...that would be wrong. NOBODY deserves what I think youre implying and it wouldnt serve any purpose. Not like [some kind of abuse] will change him, or accomplish anything else.

I *would* be in favor of Capital Punishment for the Molestation had he been convicted of that, but Id settle for Life Imprisonment. IMO humans (oughta put that in scare-quotes) who prey on children resign their membership in the Human Race and oughta be prevented from doing more damage. But that prevention does not equal "subjected to what they did to others". Wrong is wrong; I see this sort of thing as one of those Moral Absolutes.

"Do unto others..." and all that.

If he was a university coach maybe the team would be on suspension.....

It *was* something how the final end-result of that one impacted more than the people responsible.

Eh, get me going on College Athletics. The [stuff] that the Athletic Dept. thought Id do (as a teacher) for student athletes....

Our society is overrun with lawyers that will take a case like that. The US has more lawyers per capita than any other country. I always blame the lawyers for society`s ills. Got to blame someone.

The old joke: What do you call a 1000 lawyers at the bottom of the sea..a good start.

.. I always blame the lawyers for society`s ills. Got to blame someone.

Why? Seriously..why must there be somebody (in the sense of a specific profession) to blame?

IMO "Society`s Ills" encompass a very complex dynamic and no one factor (let alone one profession) deserves to be singled out for blame.

Just as I posted about bankers- *SURE* there are some subhuman lawyers who profit from [stuff that shouldn`t happen], but none of the lawyers *I* know IRL (and that`s not just eight or ten) are like that. Every member of the legal profession I`ve ever known IRL has been a great human being who does work they can be proud of.

I always wonder if the people who blame the lawyers/bankers/whatever actually know very many members of that profession personally. If I`m wrong, and somebody *does* know predatory bankers and shifty lawyers please correct me, but IMO they`re just an easy target and the few bad apples get all the press.
