512detail- Yeah, I pretty much self-ID as "Libertarian" these days given what`s happened to my GOP (and the Libertarians finally distancing themselves from the Pedophilic [individuals], that had been a deal-breaker for me).
Bunky- Yow, that "quietly..kill themselves off" hit me close to home, given my friend Rachel`s recent death from an OD!
But I`ll agree completely about all the folks nodding off in vehicles...no different from Drunk Drivers passing out at the wheel IMO. Irresponsible is irresponsible, and I have no more tolerance for that than you do. I just don`t always see things like Drug Use as being *inheritently* or categorically irresponsible.
My point is that if they could get/use the drugs without having to be "outside of society" to do so, everybody`d be better off. Still have to make sure people don`t do stupid stuff while using all right, we sure don`t need more [individuals] turning vehicles into lethal weapons.
OK, why do I beat this topic to death? Disclosure/specific-to-me observation: My late Mother suffered severely from Cancer for years, my favorite Aunt too (in the latter case it was *decades*). The MDs expected both to die quickly but nope, they just stayed alive somehow, astounding the experts. No question those two were addicted to some really potent opiates for a *long* time. Yet they functioned quite well. Drove with no problems (once they acclimated to the effects), stayed mentally sharp as tacks, accomplished more than many "straight"/healthy folks every single day. My Aunt served as a primary caregiver for another Aunt while this was going on, talk about remaining responsible while "fixing" on a regular basis! It`s *ALWAYS* just a matter of Personal Responsibility in my book and to me the whole "war on drugs" is just a) a $-making racket, and/or b) judgemental [individuals] trying to impose their values on others.
