The Process Question

Hey everyone...have done a lot of reading and studying on the site...but have couple product and process questions. Here is the process I am planning on using this weekend on my '03 Civic (Silver Metallic). I will have questions at the end.



1. Wheels (off the car)

2. Dawn wash

3. Clay (Clay Magic Kit)

4. Wash (Megs GC Shmp & Cond)

5. Polish

6. AIO (Klasse)

7. Glaze twice (Klasse)

8. Wax (NXT)

9. Top Coat





Ok so that's the steps...think that I am pretty well set in the steps (if not please correct). My questions are as follows.



1. What Polish product do you guys like...the paint isn't in terrible condition but it has a few blemishes and one "to the metal" scratch :( .



2. The NXT, I don't know if this is a wax or a cleaner...opinions seem to differ.



3. With that line up what do you think would be the best product to use for the top coat if needed.



4. Do you guys use rainx on the windows...also I hear a lot of people discussing sealing windows, are you using something like Klasse SG?



5. I have a lot of bug and tar on the front bumper...what's the best way to handle that? I got some Stoner's Tarminator, is it safe?



I will leave it there for now. I think that this community is great, everyone is so knowledgable. I actually just recommended it to a friend who is a semi pro (weekender) detailer for $$. Let me know what you think...I will be watching this thread all day.



If you can think of any other products that I should use please let me know. I will be making one more run to a local detailing supplier in my area before the job, otherwise it will need to be something I can find OTC.

I don't know much myself, as I'm a total noob myself, but I believe I recall reading some posts about NXT taking off the SG. So it might be a good idea to find another carnuba wax, eg, s100, souveran, ect.
 
from what i read if you're going to use the klasse twin, you should go with a carnauba wax. s100 seems to be the best bang for the buck to me. $15 at a harley dealer
 
Be careful of what type of polish you use. if you are using a polish that contains fillers or swirl hiding properties, then using AIO after such a polish will remove the fillers ansd swirl hiding, resulting in marring (Scratches) being exposed.



Note: This applies if your car already has marring (scratches) that you want to hide and eventually remove.



Now, if you have car in great paint condition i.e. ( no oxidation or marring) then you can skip the klassse twins and go straight to your LSP after polishing.

LSP!!! What the heck does it mean...I see it all the time but the decoder ring page (acronym defenitions page) doesn't have some of the day to day txt msg type terms, just product abbreviations.



Because my car is silver it's extremely difficult to see marring or swirling for that matter. I don't know if I need a polish but would 3M's Final Cut be a good product for that step if I feel I needed it?
 
My paint isn't in terrible condition...still shines even without being washed in about 1.5 months...has the one big scratch in the paint. Can't believe that any swirls or marring are that bad...won't know until I do a bag test...sinse I have only ever washed it with a shampoo/conditioner from Megs and a wool mit. (I am original owner)



Should I consider the AIO as a polish/cleaner?

I have a silver vehicle as well and its VERY had to notice swirls(which is good, and bad). I recommend inspecting it at every angle and every lighting situation as possible. I cant see any swirls on my Dodge, but theres gotta be at least one ;)



Anyways, the bag test you speak of will only reveal contaminents stuck onto your paint. It will not reveal swirls or cobwebs because, well, you cant feel those.



If your gonna go w/ the Klasse twins, I would not use NXT. NXT is a sealant just like SG. Just put a carnauba on over the SG and it will/should look great. :xyxthumbs



If you want more than one coat of your carnauba, wait at least 12 hours, 24 is better, to put on another coat. The wax needs time to "cure"



As far as polishing before AIO, its kind of pointless because the AIO will remove any polishing you just did.



LSP - S100 is very nice, if you want you could also try megs #26. Ive had some really nice results with that on silver. You can find that at Pepboys and AZ.



Are you doing this by hand or with PC?? The reason I ask is because there are a number of polishes for each type of application.
