The New Lexus LS460L

Yeah, I'll be heading to the Detroit Auto Show this weekend and that's one of the cars I want to look at.

It looks alright(style-wise), but the S-class still looks sportier, IMO...but the sweet, 380hp V8 looks tantalizing!:)

I have to agree with you in the looks department. Performance wise, call me when Lexus offers a 604HP turbo 12.:)

Powertrain/internals look awesome (still waiting for that LS600h though  ), but the car's styling is uninspiring. Looks like they pulled the front end off of an Acura RL (except they somehow made it even less sporty), and the way the rear quarter panels meet the trunk is akin to the uglyified, Banglized Bimmer 7-series. I like how they molded the exhaust pipes into the rear, but otherwise the styling is rather boring and Acura-ish.

I have two complaints:

1) I have found perforated leather to be a PITA to keep clean

2) This seems to be becoming more popular- the headliner and A-panel + C-panel interior color is light gray in color for pictures 5 & 6 where the rest of the interior is dark charcoal/gray. I liked it better when manufacturers did them the same color as the rest of the interior.

I would hate to be an automotive designer nowadays because it seems like everyone is just copying off each other. If that car wasn't badged, I would easily think it was a BMW from the back and a MB from the side (the grill on the front gives it away as a Lexus though).

nice car -- it amazes me that other automakers have adopted the BMW-bangle-butt from the 7-series (see 2007 new S-class Benz, also)

XJR is the nicest looking of the bunch. But, it is a piece of junk, like all Jaguars. Lexus line in is the most reliable and best buy of the big boys. Too bad the exterior design is so so. I bet the price beats the pants of the S and the Big Bimmer( which is another peice of junk).

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees those ugly Banglized rear lines...

Can't say I like it all that much. I much prefer the IS series atm. The interior seems a bit of a mess as well.

After all, the LS is aiming at an older market than I am.

On the plus side, looks like the engine bay should be really easy to maintain. Everything's hidden by plastic.

I wont deny that it's got a bangelesque rear but I have always felt that there had to be a better way to bangelize a car too. The 6 and 7 aren't the right way for sure and make any other iteration downright beautiful IMO. Looking at the concept of the new G Coupe you can see some bangel in that too.

I don't have any problems with the Lexus leather that is perforated. They do it so they can offer air conditioned seats which is really valuable in the South.

The rear design is a lot different imho than a Bangled job. It far more integrated. The interior looks beautiful to me. Great seats, quality wood and tons of legroom. :up

1) Totally agree, although I understand the practicallity behind it. My car has perforated leather and the seat cooling system sure is nice in the summer.

2) Agree again. I think they do this because an entirely black/dark interior feels more cramped, but I absolutely hate the beige headliner/pillas in a black interior thing.

RE: the new LS - exterior is meh, interior looks great. I love the idea of having a removable hard drive built in for mp3's.

It is? I have been in a 2004 XJ8 and a 2005 XJR and both were very nice. And the owners are very satisfied. AND they actually like driving their vehicles.
