The inside dirt has to come out

I'm selling my WRX, and am completing a long detail on it (it has rained nearly every day lately, and I want the car to be fantastic when it's for sale)... the last part to do is the inside (should have been first, but it's going to be a process).



This being said, I don't have time to order the 303 or other online-purchasable products, thus I'm limited to "Over the counter" products and related procedures.



The Subaru has weird grooved carpeting in the cockpit (floor), trapping dirt at the base of the fibers, no matter how much vacuuming I do. The rear of the wagon area is a thin gray fabric with plenty of stains (I actually used the car before I realize how enjoyable keeping it looking good was), but most are organic (dirt)...



I've done my searching, but without purchasing boutique products and shop vacs, etc., I'm at a bit of a loss of a process/recommendations (even recommendations to run away from).

woolite spot remover on the carpet and use a brush to agitate the dirt from the fibers. Then vacuum it up again and see where it gets you. Just my 2 cents..
 
There's plenty of carpet cleaners OTC, might be luck of the draw which particular one or combination does the job. Ideally though, you'll need a carpet extractor. Perhaps a place like a janitorial supply store may have one for rent. I'm not certain :nixweiss



In lieu, I understand the Bissel Little green machine can do an acceptable job. Not overly expensive and you can rationalize buying one as it can be used around the house and in your next car.
 
I should add that the front's "soiling" is mostly sand, some ground/packed in, not so much dirt (though there is that issue w/ the floor mats)

Sounds like a case where the carpet cleaner should be let to dwell for a bit, then, if you have access to a power washer, try that, least aggessive setting first.
 
I will second Bill D. Also try the woolite and water mix. Agitate with a nylon bristle brush, and you can even wipe up with soem terry towels.



For an extractor, I know you can rent one at a Vons-Safeway store and it is only about 25 bucks a day.

Try Prestone PowerOUT! or Meguiar's EXTRA! for spot cleaning; I find that it works very well.



Also remember 303 is available OTC in some places. Check the local RV/Camper/Trailering Equipment dealer.

Or even ace hardware! Vinylex is usually available as a reasonable substitute.
