The great Towel Debate!

Do you wash your MF towels in the machine? Do you dry by machine? If you do it by hand, what detergent do you use to wash?

Just my $.02, but I wash mine with just a little Tide Free and hot water with a cold rinse (double rinse cycle). I then throw everything into the dryer on the knits settign (lower heat) until about 95% dry (barely damp) so that there is no static buildup.

The reason I like the dryer is that it fluffs up the pile versus line drying.

i let puter do all the ruff stuff...hes my strong arm on autopia....those Poway guys can get nasty when they get all worked up.....like if the temp goes below 74...or the surfing is no good for a day.....or they cant go to venice beach in their little shorts and rollerblade all day.....or someone has a darker tan than them.................so pay up....

Guess My Name:

I was wondering if you tried Tims towels, is his towels inyour test.

I would like to give him some business, he has a great Reputation

on this forum..

I have not tried Tims Towels.

Seems the GF put a hold on my MF buying habit for a little while.

I did figure out who made those MFs and edited the post.

Since we're talking about towels, I'll add that today I picked up some more Royal Velvet 100% combed cotton towels. These are the best cotton towels. They were at Bed Bath and Beyond (going in there is worth the towels!) and were only $5.99. Nice! They are very plush and oh so soft!

the towel market is a tricky one

Magic towels were blue last time I tried them (in the fall).

I also heard that neatitems towels vary in plush by color.

Time to retest everyones latest babies.

I would always run a CD check to MAKE SURE even reputable towels are still par. The seller can't always be 100% about towels coming from an overseas manufacturer (or any one for that matter)

Hey, Guess did you test for lint? I would weigh towels to see who's is most dense, but then again they would have to be the same size, but you would probably have to cut out a similar sized shape in each one then weigh them.

Because Guess My Name hasn't tried the Meguiars' Ultimate Wipes I love, and I haven't tried some of his favorites, we agreed to swap a few in the mail. I'm sending him some in the mail today.

We will let you know how the U.W. stacks up. (I expect it may be IDENTICAL to at least something else GMN has tried - I'm sure whoever meguiars' buys them from sells to others.)

I never thought to weigh them and I am not sure I have the scale smallest enough for it.

Well none of them really lint as they have been washed and used a few times.

Greg yours will be in the mail tomorrow afternoon.

I tried weighing the zymol microfibers. They're about 50*. each. I'm planning to order some of neatitems towels. Anybody tried weighing them yet? If so, I'll be grateful if you could tell me the weight and how they compare against the zymol towels.

I put a Neatitems 15" mf towel on a digital postal scale. The scale weighs in increments of .1 oz. The towel weighed 2.1 oz. According to my math that is 59.5 gr.

Hope that helps. Don't have any Zymol towels and Steve is right about the sizes being the same although I guess you could figure out the weight per sq inch with an accurate enough scale. Then figure our what a cloth would weigh in say a 100 sq in size and compare all the different brands that way.

Another thought though is how old the towel is. Some of my older towels are definately thinner than they used to be. The one I weighed is relatively new.

Could people list some more towels I have not included in the test so I may purchase and try em out.

I know of the 2 that TACSCAR sells.

The new Vipers from CMA

Any others? I have not seen the Zymol one yet.

I would be willing to trade samples of ones I have NeatItems (White, Mint Green, or blue) or Yosteve (blues). even swap preferable something about 15 x 15.

Pm me if you have something I do not and desire a trade to try something out.

Thanks Prinz,

The Zymol was washed a few time and length looks like 16" by 16" but then again, when it's new it'sprobably about the same size and weight as the neatitems, or slightly lighter.

My meguiars definitely pales in comparison so... guess I'll try neatitems :-)

<strong class='bbc'>9.0 - CMA Viper Glass Cleaning Cloth

9.1 - CMA Magic Towel - I rate this the best of my bunch!
[/b]</blockquote>
Through a miscommunication I ended up with a chance to buy 12 golden Viper Glass Cloths in bulk. I previously had one that I only used for windows. It was easy that way because it was my only gold towel. My local autoparts store ordered 12 MFTs for me and I thought I was getting the green Viper brand. However when they arrived it was 12 gold Vipers packed in bulk.

Even though this wasn't what I had in mind I remembered GMN's post and how he rated them very highly and the price was right. So I think I'll leave the tag on one so that it can be my designated glass cloth. Then I'll use the rest for removing wax and sealant. I'll let you know how they work out. They are nice and thick like my Tacscar light blue MFTs. :xyxthumbs

I recieved the Meguiars towel and the new yosteve green towels today.

In a few weeks or days I will update the review and add them.

Thanks Greg and Steve.

Do any of you all have the older Miracle Towels from say at least a year ago. Now those towels were the absolute best. They were as plush and soft as can be. Extremely soft towels. I have a few that are still brand new and that are still in their original package. I don't think I'll ever use at least two of those. Laters
