The flyers worked!

Today I put out around 100 flyers, just in my neighborhood. On about the 5th house, my neighbor says, "Hey, take mine when you're through putting those flyers out." So I finished the flyers, did his car, and got a check for $100. He told me to get hime some of my business cards so he can give them to his golf buddes! Thanks guys for all the tips:up . I'm sure I'll have more questions as time goes on:bow

Good going bro! What all did you do to his car? How long did it take you? I am going to do the same here come spring.

Thanks!! It took a little longer than I'd planned, but I know it's one of those things that as you do it more and more, you get quicker. The car was a dark blue Mercury Marquis (I think, it's the same body as the Crown Vic). I washed it with Protect-All Q&E (in full sun - no shade) one panel at a time, then washed the tires & wheels and dressed the tires, used Meguiar's 2.0 SMR on it in quite a few areas to get out some scratches and blemishes, waxed it with #26, wiped the entire interior down with a 6:1 mix of Meguiar's APC+, dressed the doors & dash with Eagle 1 lotion, vacuumed the whole thing, did the glass in & out w/E1 20/20, and finally did a QD on it using E1 Wipe & Shine. It took me roughly 5hrs. I'd like to get it down to 4hrs for that routine.

Well, after my little summer detailing operation fizzled and I got overtly busy with so many things, I've put it on the back burner. But, in just this past week, I've had two calls. The first was from my hairdresser who wanted some stains taken out of both of her van's carpeting. The next was a message from a man that's a friend of one of my mother's co-workers, and I've been told he has "two big, nice cars" and "wanted them done by me". Well, I'm doing the van's the weekend after next, and the other guy has yet to call me back.

I already had one flyer/advertisement fiasco in August, but I might try something new sometime. I'm a junior in high school this year, so things only keep getting busier, but I've been trying to work some time into my weekends for these jobs when people call.

I should be able to get decent $$ from the few cars if I can get in touch with the people.

Way to go, Jedi! Happy to hear that it worked so well (and so quickly)!

I might suggest you try a different product on the interior vinyl (for treating) - the lotion seems to be a bit time consuming to apply, so you might try vinylex or 303 Aerospace protectant (just to speed things up a bit).

Great job and I hope your business continues to grow quickly!

Thanks man - I appreciate it. And I think I'll pick up some 303 at Camping World this week. It's been in the back of my mind to pick some up:xyxthumbs

I had a similar experience when I was putting out flyers. I was almost to the front door of a house when it opened and a really beautiful blonde lady walked out and almost ran into me. Anyway, to make a long and beautiful story short and ugly, she made an appointment for early the next week. Turned out she as Mike Lalor's wife, a defenseman on the Dallas Stars (NHL), and until he retired and moved back to Wisconsion, I regularly detailed his cars along with one of his teammates, Craig Ludwig.

You would be amazed at what you can get from just one person hearing about your business-one person saw the sign on the back of my car, and over the past almost 9 years, I can trace 20 customers to that first one, either because he personally referred me or people driving by saw me cleaning his cars and stopped and asked for my card. I still do his cars to this day!

Try Pro's Glosso Dressing.

You get pretty much the same results as 303 Aerospace w/o the high cost. I've starting using it now. can order it at prowax.com but their is probably a local distributor close to you.

W/ Pro detailing the cost of your products becomes an issue so you're gonna be wanting to purchase in gallons and 5 gallons.

Heck, if you plan on doing it awhile get a 55 gallon drum of soap. It'll last you a long time and you'll save a lot per gallon wise. I'm gonna get one in about a year after I move. Mmmm soap....

glosso works good for dressing engines too, I dilute 50/50 with water. Jason

I'll have to give it a try for the next engine. I still have some Premo dressing left over so I've been using it.

Premo gives a nice shine but it still leaves a greasy residue on the surface. Glosso doesn't.

I've been contemplating putting out a few "test" flyers.... is it too late in the season, or might i get some pre-winter wax jobs?

thx

If you live in Fairbanks, Alaska, it is probably too late.

Put them out anyway, it may give you a jump start going into spring. I got a call on a flyer I had put out...6 years after I had put it on her door! She had put it in a drawer and forgot about it until she cleaned out the drawer. Not only have I cleaned her car several times, but she referred me to a couple more of her friends...all from a long lost flyer!

BTW, I finally found an old flyer. I am scanning it and will post it in a few.

Great scottwax, would like to see that!

Also, I was considering putting them on cars in mall parking lots....is this not adviseable for any reason...are houses better?

thx
