I couldn't believe this when I saw it......Not much other way to explain this than the pictures.....This REALLY made me cringe..While the theory seems good (protecting paint). Im not sure how well this worked out for the guys in practice.

Here's the link to the whole story.

VWvortex Forums: What happens when you let 2 mk1 kids drive your S4 from NY to Seattle? (56k, not a chance)

LOL I love the sharpies they take to it after awhile...

Isn't this autopian nightmare?? :chuckle: :chuckle:

hahahaha..........

What was the point of all that? Theses guys were driving their friends car from NY to Seattle and just decided to tape it for no reason?

That's amazing.

If I had 56k and went to that link.....I think my computer would blow.....seriously

Yea, I've read this before... it was actually a pretty good read! If anyone hasn't read it yet, I recommend you do. It does take time, but its definitely worth it.

Also, I don't think there's anything wrong with what they did, provided there was no dirt under the tape. It was a pretty good idea, methinks... the only thing that concerns me is driving a brand new engine at constant RPMs cross country like that.

A lot of people use blue painter's tape as a temporary bra on their vehicles.

You do have to admire how clean their tape job was, though! :getdown

freakin hilarious....dont worry about the brand new engine part my man, that car is probably 7-8 years old by now, that a4/s4 has gone through 2 differ body styles since then....woah woah, another person from orlando. i graduated from ucf in 02, live over in avalon park.

I'd do it to prevent stone chips, especially if I was transporting someone elses S4 to them.

It wont hurt a thing lol

Only way it *could* is if the tape got hot, it would make a mess. Or the tape gets wet, it would take forever to dry. Or there was dirt on the surface before application.

I remember seeing this a while back, was a great wee story that! :) Contermplating trying something similar this summer in the UK, though there ins't as far to drive on this wee island! lol

Thanks for posting the old link Setec. That was quite a story, the guys were quite amazed at how many different sites had heard about their adventure. Love reading road trip stories and this one is certainly one for the history books! :hifive:
