The "deep black" finish???

I'm new to detailing, having done it for only a year. My only real experience with "serious" products is Zaino, which I think is great.

I have an Phantom Black Pearl Effect Audi. The shine with the Zaino is outstanding. But I have noted comments that Zaino makes black cars look too plasticky and that there are ways to get better "depth" on a black car.

Even though I'm perfectly happy with the Zaino, I'm willing to try something new. Suggestions are appreciated.

Let the Zaino cure, then top it with a nuba for some extra depth. This worked well for me. Still got great shine with a little bit of extra clarity. I would suggest a nuba thats easy on, easy off so you don't rub away the Zaino. Something like Souvreign or 885. I used Blackfire Ivory and liked that look alot.

Not sure which Zanio products your using but the rule of thumb is Sealants look like a coating like it's sitting on top of the paint and Nuba's are what give the paint the rich depth most are after. There are exceptions to every rule of course but by and far this usually hold true.

Furd, my particular fav for black is a good oil based glaze followed by a carnauba wax. It gives a completely different look than the plastic-y look you'll get from Zaino, which is very similar in look to the majority of other good sealants.

Rule of thumb: with sealants, you'll get more of a hard shell candy coating, or plastic-y look. With a wax, you'll get more of a glow and depth. Hard to explain, but easily understood once you see the difference.

A very cheap way to try a glaze/nuba combo: Meguairs Show Car Glaze followed by Collinite 845 Insulator wax. The total cost shouldn't be more than 25 bucks.

Edit: d'oh, Jake beat me to it.

Heh heh, I can't quite resist suggesting you just stick with the "great" product that you're "perfectly happy with" ;)

I know. I have the urge to tinker with everything, sometimes to my detriment. :nervous:

Admins, someone has obviously hacked Accumulator's account, and is now posting sacrilege as in the above post. Please take the appropriate action.

Heh heh, are you kidding?!? This is a *CLASSIC* case of my usual Autopian Heresy :D

I sometimes think I oughta replace my "Practical Perfectionist" with "Autopian Heretic" ;)

I too use Zaino on my black Porsche C2S and love the way it looks with Z8.

However, for a deeper, wetter look, go with a glaze like Poorboy's Black Hole which was formulated after good old Liquid Ebony glaze which is not longer found.

Follow with a good wax and enjoy the depth and wetness. It may be limited due to the glaze/wax combo, but it sure will look deep!

I've topped Zaino, but found after time I just had to strip the wax and apply another Zaino coat and finish with Z8, then maintain with Z6/Z8 mostly.

Look at the other thread active about Zaino and you'll see what it looks like on my car. That's Z2, Z6 and Z8
