The almighty question:mobile or fixed

Well I've been reading alot of the articles on this site and I must say, you guys (and some girls) have been nothing short of tremendus. I've been working 2 jobs for the last few months, pounding the pavement with start up costs, distributors, pricing, advertising, and clientel. However I've hit a dilemma. I can't decide whether to go mobile or rent a fixed location. I live in NJ, close to the shore, so salt and winter damage is expected so there is a market. I only know of a handful of shops, and I've seen a couple mobile operations here and there, but still I'm puzzled on what I shall do. I'm a young guy (20) so insurance costs do pose a threat. I have a small lump sum saved for either a truck and trailer, or a few months of rent at a decent location. Any input/ pro's and cons would be very helpful. I hope to have the business up and running at the very end of the upcoming winter of 09'/spring of 2010. Look foward to hearing some responses. -Sean

and ps, I apologize if for some reason I've posted this in the wrong forum.

Easy answers...

Fixed if you can afford it.

Mobile if you can't.

Both if you can afford it.

-edit-

After reading your post, mobile is definitely the way to go. You do not want to "afford" a few months rent and hope to hell you can continue paying them..

Get a truck, get some customers, get more customers, do good work, then you will be able to open a shop when you KNOW you can afford it.

Good luck! :woot2:
