Does anyone use "the absorber"? how are they?

I would get some MF's, but I am 17 and my mom is one of those people who is terrified of the internet. Is there any local auto stores that sell decent MF's? In my town, we have a Advanced Auto Parts, Sherwin Williams, Autozone, Wal-mart, and O'reilys..
 
The absorber is not a bad product, but you do have to be very careful to keep it clean and use it only on a clean vehicle.
Most people seem to use it to blot the water and then finish with a MF towel or a good cotton terry towel.
I have some Wal*Mart MF towels and they don't seem to be all that bad. Probably not the quality of the ones I have purchased on-line, but not junk, either.
FWIW, I used good 100% cotton terry towels for years with good luck. If your mom doesn't want you to buy on the internet, maybe you can talk her out of some of her cotton terry towels.:) You should be able to buy good cotton terry towels at many stores. I wouldn't buy the ones in the automotive sections, but buy some from the bath department.

i used the absorber for a long time and i didnt get any marring caused by it. atlest from what i saw. it is easier to use a microfiber towel. preferably a waffle weave. but if not u can always go to walmart or target and get the microtex drying towels. they're very good and thats what im using right now...
 
You can use it. I used one for a looooooong time as well. Just be sure to get your car clean BEFORE you start drying with it to minimize the chances of picking up a foreign object and dragging it across the paint. Use some good ole common sense about it and you should be okay. ;)
 
Adams Polishes has something similar to it and it works way better

I am currently trying an item Adam gave me to try that is somewhat like the
Absorbers I have, but does not have that rubbery feel/sensation if you know what I mean, and dry's awesome.

I used this on two of my vehicles in leu of a WW, and finished it with a MF and some Adams Detail Spray....Looks and performs fantastic in this fashion.

Those that are intersted should contact Adam as I do not believe it is on the
website yet.

I will try to post a pic sometime tomorrow of this item, but it is beige in color and much larger than the Absorber.
 
As others have noted, there is nothing wrong with the Absorber. I also have used one for many years, before microfiber became a mainstream product. Still have a couple in use. Use it with the appropriate cautions as noted above and you should be fine.

You can also check your WM for another pretty nice product from Microtex. It is their version of a MF drying towel. Though it's not waffle weave, it is very effective. I have a couple of those myself.

Autozone may be stocking some of the newer Meguiar's products, one of which is their WW MFT.

Even though your Mom doesn't want you buying from internet vendors, that will not prevent you from acheiving very respectable results as there are many very good OTC products available.
 
I've had one for a few years and except for the faded logo, it still looks like the day I got it. Works decently for drying, but it will leave small streaks of water, and doesn't pick up water in crevices as well as a cotton towel.

They cost about 8 bucks right? For that much get yourself a nice sized egyptian cotton bath towel to do your drying.

I have been using my absorber more recently though, since I frequently go from college to home and when I go back to college on sunday nights my truck usually gets hammered with bugs, so the next day at the car wash I use my absorber to dry since I can wring it out, put it back in the canister and I don't have to worry about it molding or taking forever to dry.
 
I got myself The Absorber at target on clearance for 3 bucks and I love these things, I have tryed the whole blotting thing but After i get car clean I run it across the whole thing and let dry cause right after i use quick detailer. I also run it accross cause ive notice any inperfections it will slow down on and I know it time to clay again
 
I have an absorber, and it has lasted a very long time (so far). I love it! But I do a final wipe down with a WW MF towel.
 
I have also used one for quite some time...I haven't had any problems w/ mine either...I ALWAYS spray it w/ water once I am finished w/ it to make sure I haven't picked anything up in it that shouldn't be there...In fact, the one I have had forever is torn pretty badly...I will be buying a new one soon...But I have started using MF's and like those too...
 
I have used the absorber, microfibers (although not waffle weaves) and chamois. Between the three, I prefer the chamois. I get the heavy water off with a water blade and use a barely damp chamois for the rest. I've foud the chamois the best at not leaving streaks. I know I'm in the minority though.
 
i use the absorber, but when I wash my car ( black passat ) 2 times and then I use the absorber. I wash it about 2-3 times after normal usage. I did notice that the last pack of mf towels I bought from sam's clubs that are a 70/30 blend absorb water great!
 
I use the absorbers pretty regularly. I keep on in my truck for those times when I Dont have the time to wash And run it through a touchless wash. I use it to dry, ring it out, and put it back in its container. when im home i do perfer ww though.
 
I wipe down with my absorber then go back with some qd and a terry cloth (no mfs yet), and give it a good wipe to get rid of any streaking and to add a touch more slickness.

I'm sure you know what works for you, but I would offer a word of caution to other users. The absorber while a very good tool, is safest when used on a clean surface. I've yet to find a touchless wash or DIY spray wash which removes all of the grime from the vehicle's surface. You have probably witnessed this fact from the amount of dirt that winds up on your Absorber. Also you don't want to store your Absorber dirty. That will shorten the life, and it is not ready for your next use.

It is what I used before my current method. Current method: CWB on a stick, with a WW or other MF to wipe up what I can't reach. Dry a large car in less than 5 minutes.
 
i used the aborber for about 2 years now. I love that thing. After i "absorb" I usually go over with a terry towel or a microfiber towel and use some quick detail.
