That's One Small Step...

On this day, July 20, 1969, something was done that still leaves an image burned in the minds of those who were around when it occurred.
At 4:18PM ET, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first men to land on another world.
A few hours later, Neil Armstrong spoke those famous words "That's one small step for man, on giant leap for mankind".
Wired magazine has a great article on the event.
Hard to believe it has been 41 years since that happened.

I vividly remember watching the first steps on the moon next door at my best friends house. His family and I were huddled in his living room watching it happen.
 
I was in Toledo, OH, while on summer break from college. I was glued to the tube... (and we all know how painful that can be!)

I was at home in NYC, all of us were watching it and also watching the news on Vietnam because my brother and cousin were over there.
 
I was a wide eyed 10 year old kid glued to the Tube. It absolutely sparked my interest in technology. The Discovery Channel Blue Ray on the space program is a great watch - tough not to feel proud as an American. I still admire the courage it took for the Astronauts to Bet It All on the most powerful machine that mankind has ever made.

I was 5 yrs old, playing outside with my friends when my dad leaned out the kitchen door and announced it. The big thing for me was the paper lunar module my dad got (at a national gas station chain, I think) - it was one of those foldem'-up jobs - sat in my bookcase for years.
