I keep seeing that ad for the perfect shine detailing bar. I was wondering if this stuff is any good, cause it is so cheap. I need to buy some clay, but it is so expensive. Suggestions?

Clay is expensive because there are two patent holders and they control all of the rights. As a result, the sources for clay are very limited.

Everyone who gets clay from these sources specifies the color, aggressiveness and size, or they take a stock product.

At the consumer level (i.e., the shelves of WalMart), clay must be packaged in a nice box with, at a minimum, lubricant and instructions. This drives the prices up further and help to hold "value" for the brand name. If you break the boxed items into their parts (i.e., Meguiar's Quik Detailer = $4.99 retail), it might help to understand pricing.

I was on their page just yesterday looking at that clay and was asking myself the same question. Would love to see what some people think of it and what it compares to.

So is the clay the Mother's or Meguair's clay ? I bought the Mother's clay bar system which came with the detailer and some wax, and it looked similar to that bar in color and size.

well im going to buy it and try it, so ill give my review. But i have used the meguairs detail clay in the past and really didnt like it.

I'm pretty sure you're referring to the Clay Magic bar(blue). I've used the Meguiars(yellow) and the clay magic and they work equally as well. Don't let the price fool you

Hey DavidB, what would you charge to ship 3 bars of your cheapest clay to Canada? R2C 5A4. I'm in need of clay quickly, and I don't want to ship out 60 bucks for a stupid piece of clay (3).

I only need the clay btw.

They're is a Perfect Shine Clay Bar in the autopia store. It's not the Clay Magic Bar.

Hopefully DavidB can come along and give us some more info on this product as I'm sure a lot of people are interested in it.

Am I wrong or should this thread be moved to the Autopia Car Care forum before David can reply? I'd like to hear about this product too, as I am in need of some clay within the next week or so. I personally always go with the Clay Magic bars, I wonder how this product compares.

I just received two bars from Autopia a few days ago. I haven't had a chance to use it yet. It looks and feels very similar to Mother's.
