Keep it clean !!!
If Steve from Poorboys ever refers a job to you, don't blink you may miss out on something special !!! I detailed a 1935 Ford Hotrod for the owner of (www.americanrodsandrides.com) this week, and I would be selfish not share a few pics of this unbelievable piece of machinery !!!

The paint was OUTSTANDING and completely free of orange peel. After a buff with #82 and a coat of Nattys Wax she looked like a "red diamond" !!!
 
The polished aluminum wheel (20" rear + 17" front) where awesome !!! This car was full of polished aluminum on the engine, and it took me about 2.5 hours to polish. Well worth it !!! The interior was all leather !!! I mean all LEATHER (floor walls and roof) !!! Great car and well maintained by a true Hotrod professional/enthusiast !!!

Last pics is my latest "work truck" !!! Much more fun than my E150 van. She is not all that clean in the pic, because she was rained on for 2 days prior to these pics.

Thanks again Steve !!! Don from www.americanrodsandrides.com was a real nice guy and a real professional. It was indeed and honor to spend the morning/early afternoon with his piece of American Muscle !!!

WOW !!! I would say !!! I have detailed about 10-15 restoration and or custom hotrod type cars in the past 2 years, and the amount of work that when into the body/finish on this car was awesome !!! I cannot say that for some of the other project cars I worked on. One Black MGB I detailed this year took me over 8 hours just to correct some inconsistencies in the finish. I absolutely HATE wetsanding cars like these for obvious reasons !!! :brick

Absolutely no paint corrections needed on this one !!! Awesome car !!! Was a pleasure to spend some time with her !!!
 
Talked with the owner of the car and he was really :angry:......

My Dad restores old cars and used to Drag Race in the 60's and 70's
I know all to well the time and effort it takes to create a car as beautiful as this one.
Being from So. Cal. I used to go to lots of shows, cruse nights and
swap meats. Now I live in Texas and have only seen one or two quality hot rods.

What happened to the Van? Am I the only one here with an E150 now.
Are you going to pull a trailer with the new truck?
 
Hey Ron,

The E150 is still the backbone of my operation. The Lightning is for days when I am detailing only one "project" type car. It is fully outfitted with a Honda Generator/Pressure washer, but I only carry a maximum of 30 gallons of water.

PLUS... I now have a car I LOVE to drive, and its is a "work vehicle".

Also, my brother will be taking up a lot of my daily driver type business this spring, so I can focus more on the type of cars I enjoy detailing. In other words he is going to "pay his dues". :)

I read here before that you don't do this full time. Is it a weather issue? Or are you independently wealthy and just have a rewarding hobby?

I started "Like New Auto Detailing" as a part-time biz/hobby in 2001. I always owned black cars and loved the challenge of keeping them swirl free and pristine in and out year round without the luxury of a garage !!! I started taking on detailing jobs for friends/family and neighbors cars at their request, after they witnessed how I kept my personal vehicles. As I made a few bucks on the side detailing, I always reinvested the profits into better equipment and chemicals to perform the detail more effeciently and effectively. Detailing part-time permitted me the ability to finance the business completely without the need for loans. Next season my brother will be taking on a substantial portion of my (daily driver) customers, so I can focus on detailing cars that I enjoy detailing the most (collectibles, antiques, show cars, exotics).

From now until early March my business slows down considerably, and I look forward to the needed break. I plan on spending more quality time with the family during these months (2 children).

As far as my occupation, I work full-time in a management capacity for a financial institution during the overnight hours (I'll PM you) . I really do love my full-time job, but my part-time business really satisfies my entreprenaurial appetite, and my love for detailing. It is also a way to make a nice $$$ doing something I enjoy.

ALSO... I would rather detail a black Porsche 911 Turbo than go golfing or fishing !!!
