Big difference, eh? Almost no water on your garage floor either! I've used QEW on cars as dirty as yours was and was amazed at how clean they end up...without scratches either!

I have been using QEW for about 6 months now on ScottWax's recommendation. I love it. No problems whatsoever.

Lately, with all the bad weather and a filthy car, I have been afraid to use it without blasting off the car at the Baywash. This is proving difficult as it is 1/2 hour from my house plus it is so crowded it will take hours just to get there and get it done.

Are you guys totally confident using it on a filty car without a prerinse? I am hesitant to use it on my car with salt and sand on it. Scott, I know you've used it in dirty cars but what do you guys think about the heavy salt and sand on the car? (Worse than mx5gary's before pic.)

Eric-with really bad road grime and salt film, I would definitely use the two bucket method and change the water out halfway through. Just work smaller sections and wash them twice before drying. You should see the grime literally wash right down the sides along with the flow of water.

Takes a two car uninsulated garage (with cold cars) from 20deg to 65deg in about 45-60 min. than place it on its lowest setting to hold the temp fairly constant.



The cars take about 2 - 3 times as long to reach a stable temp for wax/polishing, which gives me a good amount of time to do a really good wash.

I figured it should be O.K. I was just a bit worried.

I use a 6 bucket method with 2 cotton chennile sponges, an OXO wheel brush and a Charisma Select for the the wheels plus several damp and several dry MF's, so hopefully it will work as well on my filthy car as it does when my car is not too bad.

It doesn't save me any time but here at the condo I don't have much choice. Thanks! :xyxthumbs

I've been using the QEW for awhile now. It is great stuff. I feed it through a garden sprayer though and then have a bucket of clean water to rinse my mit off with.



It looks like there is someone in your car trying to hotwire it...
 
It's my daughters car and she is fixing her CD player, which needed to be reset after changing out the battery.



She keeps it in good shape for a ten year old daily use car.
 
Gary-I have a son who will be driving in a few months and I sure hope he takes as good care of whatever he gets as your daughter takes care of that Miata. Like you, I am trying to pass down my good car maintenance skills to my children.
 
Should have seen her the week before, changing out shocks/springs with me! It's truly nice to know that she feels all types of maintenance are important.



The Miata started new as mine but she has had ownership for the past 4+ years, even made it through her college years with only one minor mishap. And although she always wants it to look it's best, the "Autopia" mode of detailing isn't there. She's only an above average detailer, which is something I can live with. I'm sure since as shes still at home the current feeling is why not let Dad, who enjoys detailing, enjoy himself.



Sort of nice having a black car as my test bed anyway! And since she plans to have it repaint this coming year I get to try some things I would never even do on a test bed.

Eric,



After spraying your car down, do you drive it home and then use QEW? Or do you do the QEW procedure at the car wash....because if you did, wouldn't you just be better off using regular car shampoo?

Hey Tony,



Since us autopians in LA can get to the coin op car wash in the winter:cool: , I use the low pressure spray with Mothers Trigger wash and my 100% cotton viking mitt. Then follow it up with the spotless rinse. Since I have been doing this, the QEW is worthless to me, that's why I gave it away to my neighbor. Maybe if I was back east, I would have to use QEW.:eek:

I tried using a trigger-wash type of soap along with the mitt and wand, but I had trouble juggling all three things at once...even while hanging the soap sprayer in my pocket. Any tips you can offer?

I use the low pressure only for the body, wet down the car and wheels and tires (using the high pressure). Then I spray the wheels with 3M Wheel and Tire cleaner, brush the tires, rinse everything down using the high pressure for the wheels and tires only. Then I spray the Trigger Wash on each panel, I bring my Viking Mitt in a zip lock bag saturated with warm water. Spray some more Trigger wash on the Viking mitt and soap up all the panels. Since I do it early in the AM, it's cool enough and there is no sun yet so the panels are okay(soap doesn't dry) until I do the rinse. No need to hold the spray wand until you are done soaping up the panels. Then i just rinse with the spotless low pressure rinse and drive home. By the time I get to my garage, most of the water has blown off and I use one big waffle weave to dry the body panels. Then I use the smaller MF's to dry the door sills, hood and trunk areas. etc. i take a break, then come back and QD with Quik Shine, do the windows inside and out and then use either Vinylex, 303 or Meguiars to shine the tires.:xyxthumbs

I rinse the car and spray a solution of Z-7 instead of the harsh Baywash soap, rinse again, then I use the spot free rinse and drive home and use QEW. This morning I did the Baywash and came to work. Tomorrow morning I will QEW. If the roads are dry, I am comfortable with this as the terrible stuff is off of the car.

It was 15 dgerees here this am and the car froze over quickly. I may have to rethink my plans. I would really like to use the Mother's Trigger wash with mitts at the Baywash but I have to figure out a plan to store everything while I wash. Having the wand, the Trigger Wash, a wheel brush, a tire brush and a couple of mitts isn't too easy. The bays are dirty with no place to put anything. This is why I have been rinsing and then going home to QEW.
