Thanks to all that post here. I've been reading for months now and have learned a lot. My car is an '83 VW Rabbit - Diamond Silver metallic (the light version) which I dearly love. I'm a water cooled VW fan. The paint is quality on this car, but has hail damage so I intend to repaint it. Now I get to practice so when it has new paint, I'll know how to take care of it.

I'll never be the type to post a lot, I tend to search and read, but wanted to stop lurking long enough to say thank you for all of the shared information. I'm having a blast polishing stuff I didn't know I had.

Most women want jewels - I want car parts and now MF towels. The beau is getting alarmed.

Hey KAS, if the paint is in real good shape on the car, why not look into paintless dent removeal for the hail damage? I went this route with a car I once had, and let me tell you, the results are amazing. You'll never know the dents were there if you get a good PDR person to do it. It's something to look into. It will probably be a lot cheaper than a repaint and you can use the money you saved to spend on detailing supplies!

I wish I could do dent removal but the paint got chipped to primer on the roof & hood. Zero dents, though. It's good paint to learn on, not 20 yrs old. It's a fun little resto project for me and paint is minor since the irreplaceable parts on this car are perfect. Right now I'm learning what a difference the various detailing products/techniques make. Huge.
