So I always hear about #16 around here and just realized I don't know much about it. What makes it so great? How is durability? Ease of application/removal? Looks? Just wondering because this stuff seems to be thought higly of around here. Thanks!

Think of #16 like a 1965 Shelby Mustang. It was a great performer that you could buy at a local dealer and came along at a time when most people had never seen a really fast car.

Fast forward forty years

The ’65 is still a fast car and loads of fun to drive. But today, it’s not difficult to find a car that’s just as fast or faster but easier to live with. And yet, who wouldn’t give his eye teeth to own a Shelby?

That’s what #16 is like. It still looks great and lasts well. Is it alone in that? Hardly. Is it the singularly absolute best performer? No. But it’s a connection to the past that still works in the present. And the fact that it’s now off the shelves just adds to its legendary status.

And like many a classic, it can be a handful if not used with proper respect for its quirks. The main one is that you must not apply it thick. If you do it will set up like concrete. Put it on really, really, REALLY thin and you’ll get great results.

PC.

Well in addition to what everybody else said. it is a great value as a tin will last you for a long time. durability is pretty darn good too. like others stated key is application. we all must learn our own way of making it easy to apply super thin.

Is there a Hertz version of #16? If so, I'd love to rent some #16, remove the contents and return it to the store with some Turtle Wax in the tin. :)

Yes there is , located at store Flatstick or me via PM LOL! was interested in selling one more extra tin that I have or trade for some ONR and some cash. did not have any takers. give me a shout.

Good old school carnauba wax experience. Nice wet gloss, excellent durability. No longer available in the US due to California's new VOC regulations. You can still get it in Canada and Europe.

I was among the people who thought that #16 is nothing special. I asked even the Megs reps on the Geneva Motor Show. We tried it on a perfect SS black Cobra, but I still couldn't detect the pop. But I didn't want to give up too early and kept experimenting. Finally the look was there after 3-4 coats, and I must admit that it is wonderful.

I guess I'm not the only one who remembers that happening in the sixtys.

I think Hertz is a whole lot smarter about the engine swapping now.

I remember hearing those stories too, people would rent the Hertz Shelbys for the weekend, weld in a roll cage and go racing, then take out the roll cage in time to return the car on Monday! :grinno:

That's for sure...my last can lasted me over a decade, and that was when I was still doing cars for friends/family. Which means my estate will probably include nearly a full case of the stuff :D

Nice pic Scottwax

its still for sale overseas...the exhange rate and shipping would make it expensive , but you can get it

a while back they was selling new cans on ebay @ £3 (about $6 ) so a grabbed a couple:chuckle:

I loved Meguiar's #16!

The secret was apply a thin layer one panel or one section at a time, let it haze, then buff it out to a brilliant shine.

I also really like #16.

I usually put a coat of #21 followed the next day by #16. Looks great! :getdown
