Teardrop Detailing rig?

What do you guys think of this as a detailing trailer?

They are originally designed for 1 - 2 people camping. I think the style is just too cool. I found a few places on line that sell them all ready for camping for about $13,000 (Ouch) And I have seen a few places online that will sell you plans to build you own. The plans run about $99. I am thinking of building my own custom "teardrop trailer" all decked out and ready for detailing. (Maybe even make it so I can empty it out and use it for camping too.)

What do you guys think of this trailer pulled behind my lil red focus, with some vinyl displaying my name, web site and number?

Its a nice looking trailer but seems expensive, only because you could get a trailer with a shell cheaper that will do the same thing, and not have any more tongue weight than the tear drop one

Well I am planning on building my own with out all the camping stuff in it. the $13,000 one is heated and has AC and an oven, etc... I figure I will cost me about $600 - $800 to build on to my specs.

I was thinking of the Teardrop trailer as more of a visual thing that can be more of a "functional icebreaker". In my head I dont see many people commenting on a van or a regular trailer as much as I see people commenting on a teardrop. Teardrop trailers have more of a nostalgia, charm, and history to them more than a van does. I could see a van being more practical if I did a lot of high volume car washing and need to have large amounts of water and chemicals on hand. But as it stands now I detail (polish) about a car a week and carry everything in my trunk and back seats.

I especially like the little fold-out table, I think it would save my back considerable pain and suffering if I was able to have all of the products that I am using at waist level rather than on the ground. Ditto for the "desk" portion of the rig.

the only problem i foresee is cramming your tank(s) and gennie into the enclosed portion of the thing.

I am thinking in the one I will make to have on one side a little mini office. With a lamp, Power port for my laptop 12 volt outlet for a cell phone. and a little printer.

how much are you planning for it to weigh? water is 8 pounds a gallon plus equipment and the weight of the teardrop. will your focus pull that, and if it does how long before the tranny goes out? also what will your gas milage be? not trying to burst your bubble, it would be pretty trick but will it work?

I dont plan on towing much water around. The Focus can only pull 1000 lbs.

I think that is an AWESOME idea!!!

I agree. Plus it just has that cool factor!

One question, I understand the plans are $99, but what about the materials? Does the company sell the frame/panels?

The plans I got use a chassis that you can buy at Harbor Frieght. I think they even say the part number in the plans.

You know, when I first looked at the pictures I was cracking up  , but, then the more I look at it, the more I'm seeing that it would actually be a pretty cool mobile detailing setup, especially with putting supplies in the rear, the table on the side, etc.

I am even thinking of making a mobil office on one side. So I would open a door and there will be a little desk with my laptop hooked up and a little printer and a lamp. then I just have to pull up a seat.

So have you actually purchased the plans? If you do proceed with building this unit. I will appreciate watching your progress and final outcome, along with road worthiness opinions.

I do have the plans. now I am tring to get a hold of a welder. Then I hope to start building by Febuary. I will take pictures along the way. I am still putting pen to paper on this, trying to find out exactally how I want it.
